Honestly, I saved a lot of money with the shipping hassle, and did not want to trust some shop out here with the install. YES< i could have done it myself but just did not want to deal with the hassle.

Hey, at least we can agree that the 6.0 coolers work good! Not only that, JW is someone i could go drink beer with, has dyno events at his shop, and you can pull up your RV there and party it up!
I agree about not trusting a local shop to do the install. I do not have a lot of faith in most of the local shops around here. Almost all of the ones I have gone to around here seem annoyed whenever I ask them to work on my truck for repairs much less asking them to do any performance modifications. I am glad that I came across JW's shop. He was more than willing to do the work on my truck and he did a great job and even let me watch him work on it. His shop is also the first shop I have come across that has a heavy duty enough hydraulic lift that was able to lift my truck in the air, which was cool. The fact that he has a dyno is great also.

Agreed on the 6.0 coolers. The 7.3's should have had these coolers installed from the factory.

BTS seems the most confident of his transmissions. No power levels like JW (less limitation). You can mate it to a stock motor or a 700HP motor. Same price. Within 2 yrs, he pays for the shipping. Outside of that, you pay for shipping. Either way, he fixes it for free. I doubt he would warranty it if you took a 500 S&W Magnum to it but other than that, I haven't seen a better warranty. IMO, if you are not as confident of your product as the other guy, why should I be as confident of your product?

Does Brian have installers on the west coast? or Where in SoCal is this "JW" some of you are talking about??? Going to try and drive it into SoCal this Tuesday (no trailer) but need to find a good west company, or I will just leave it at the house in SoCal and come back out next month and resuce it and put it on a trailer and tow it back to Arkansas to BTS.
Thanks for any help and info in advance.
Hey what others said about where John wood is located...further..I am not far from john woods' shop at all. Let me know if i can be of any assistance...IE ride, bringing the trans somewhere. I go out near his shop all the time to ride, hit the desert, etc. I also got a car hauiler trailer. I know when my trans went limped it all the way there in second and third gear with slippage, every warning light on the dash on (not really)

If you do go with BTS, there are some shops i know of around here (one's an awesome ford dealer in the inland empire) that will install his unit.

GOod luck!

When I went that route, I just had a local Ford dealership install it. Of course the terms would be that they only warranty their work, yada, yada, yada. Actually I had a mechanic there install it. What is the difference? He charged me a lot less since it was a cash deal.

Well, I must say this, In the last 2 days, I have spent about an hour on the phone with Brian, He gave my a list of things to do and check, (Check cooler portion of the radiator for a clog, check the bypass tube on side of tranny for leaking in certian conditions, and so on.
I have a friend here in the Las Vegas area who runs Top Fuel Dragster and they cleared there shop for me today and let me us their shop as if it were mine, So I backflused the radiator, the tranny cooler, dropped the pan and replaced both the filter and the bypass line ( Cheap insurance policy) refilled and ran then drained and refilled once again. Took on test drive and temp now have not exceeded 186 degrees, 40 degrees cooler then what they were driving to the shop this morning, going to hook up trailer tomorrow and see how it pulls with it on, If I feel safe, Im going to pull trailer to SoCal. and leave it at the house there and then head home to Tn. (with a stop in Arkansas) Thanks again Brian, see you next week.

Ill give this one a shot...

Maybe its because ATS is a bunch of douche bags that don't know the meaning of the words "customer support".

Another vote for BTS here. Brian, Patti, Cale and crew are tops

I think it would be hard to come to the conclusion that "JW can not touch BTS" unless you have also done business with John Wood. I can say that JW has great service, his pricing is comparable to BTS, and he has a similar same day service as BTS. If desired, you can watch your transmission being built from the ground up at JW like what BTS offers. The transmission I have from him works great, much better than my old one. I will not say that JW makes the best transmission as I have never had a truck with a BTS in it, but will say that I love my transmission.

It is actually, but no one EVER "FALLS OFF" because of any service or quality issues either, so I guess that's why. It just keeps getting more and more crowded... maybe we need a bigger wagon!

As I said, I won't knock JW, but you just never hear any of his stories of how he went ABOVE AND BEYOND, like those of us have heard FIRST HAND. (Not he said she said) I mean BTS customers telling how he came to their house, 5 hrs away. Because the TC went out on a truck the customer used for his business. It was going to cost him a ton to get it to BTS, and lost time on his business. Brian went to his house, swapped the trans in his driveway and shook his hand and left.. to name ONE instance...

These were the kinds of threads I read that convinced me, BRIAN was the man, and since I was only 7 hrs away. I went there, and have been back twice since, once to get my trans swapped from the 99 to the 03. Ane once with another friends truck on my trailer.
Not saying JW doesn't take care of you. I just have not seen any threads relating those type instances is all.
Also the fact that Brian doesn't have any "Levels of builds" ,,, we all got the same trans, with different tuning in the valve body and plate. Same internals as a guy with 1000hp behind a cummins (Fummins) in my trans with only about 320hp at the wheels.

And only a few think "JW can't hold a candle to BTS" I think, they are just very happy with thier trans.... as they should be.
Again, if I was on the west coast, or west of the Rockies, I would have considered a JW I imagine. But being from MO. and right next door to Arkansas, it was a "No Brainer" who I went to...

Yep, the BTS bandwagon is looking like a train, sure glad a PSD is the locomotive! JW has a good following, but Brian offers the best customer service, second to none. One point of fact about Brian, it is not all about the money, it is building the best He can, and standing behind His work 100%. The dictionary, under customer service should have a picture of the BTS Crew.

I cannot say I have seen any threads where someone stated their JW transmission failed. I spent a great deal of time searching Google before going to JW to see if anyone complained of failure but did not come across anything. That's not to say that there have not been cases, but I did not find any at the time. While I was at JW, he told me that he spends a lot of extra time to make sure he has everything setup correctly before installing the transmission. He said that when a transmission fails that the cost to R&R and repair it will result in a loss of profit on the sale.

Based on the lack of complaints for failures on the Internet and the level of professionalism I saw with JW, I never worried or asked about the warranty.

exactly...JW just doesn't have the internet following that BTS does as well...and believe it or not..there's a lot of shops out there that do great work that aren't on this site.

Everyone on the bts bandwagon keeps talking about the levels of builds...that part of jw made me want to go there. It's notthat he's being lazy..he just doesn't sell the 3m input shafts to a poor sap who'll never come close to breaking a stock unit..which..come onnow...isn't junk. Plus, he does IN HOUSE machine work..and sells NEW 6.0 torque converters. His converter..which is a modified billett unit...sold me over the OTHER one used.
