Re: 08 mirror swap

Part #'s 7c3z*17682*ca 7c3z*17683*ca. For the mirrors 7c3z*17b676*aa 7l1z*17b676*aa for the switch and relay. Don't know which part is which side,or swich # is for the relay/switch. But these were all the #'s on my invoice.

Re: 08 mirror swap

Is the switch a direct swap or do you need a new connector? Also, I thought I read on another site that while the mirrors are physically a direct swap, the wiring was an issue. I remember someone saying the glass movements are reversed (move toggle to the left and the glass pivots to the right, down is up, etc.). Is this only an issue when using the stock 99-07 switch?

Re: 08 mirror swap

The switch movements are normal, unless the person wired them wrong. Should not make a difference what switch is used. I did not use the factory connectors on the mirrors I cut and hardwired all connections, no big deal.

Here's links for those pics:

Well FEVER, I must say, they look good. I did not like them when I first saw them on the 08s. Maybe because the rest of the truck is so "SQUARE" looking too. But on your earlier SD, they look alot better than I thought they would! The marker lights still look like an "Afterthought" from FORD though, if they were flush like on the 03's and up it would look much better, almost like they designed the mirrors, and someone said, Oh SH!T we forgot the marker lights!

You say there is allot more mirror surface on them for seeing to the rear?

Good job, the door panel looks great! Just like stock would if they came with those!

Only thing is, I was looking at the prices on them new! YEOOOW,,, if I did want them, I would have to be VEWY VEWY patient,,(like when hunting wabbits) I don't think I could justify paying over a grand for a pair!!
But good job!

Re: 08 mirror swap

I myself don't like the new mirrors, look like they should be on a Tonka truck!! But I can appreciate the work that went into the install and I compliment those that have done this mod.

Re: 08 mirror swap

Cant say I love them either, but really, do you think they look better on our years trucks? (Not necessarily better than the ones we have,,)But better than on the 08s? I think I do. Heck on the 08s they almost look crooked, at least they look straight on these...

Re: 08 mirror swap

I think that the 08 mirrors look better on the 99-04 trucks, than even the stock towing mirrors. I was browsing over some of the 08 cab/chasis trucks at the dealer the other day when I was picking up our new service truck, but I completely forgot to look at the mirror size. I'm going to look into doing this on mine as my large glass shakes like crazy going down the road, to the point where I can barely use them. I'll have to watch ebay and see what they go for on there. Right now a $500 mod is kind of high.

On a side note, the 08s are starting to grow on me. I NEVER thought that would happen.

Re: 08 mirror swap

Has anyone shown pix of the wiring the '08 mirrors to an '03? Has anyone have a detailed write up of the wiring. I don't understand the wiring instructions that I have.
I read here that lots of guys don't like the 08 mirrors, well I like big mirrors my eyes aren't as good as they once were.

Re: 08 mirror swap

I have an '06 F350 and have ordered the '08 mirrors from Ford. I know there will be 2 issues. First '06 mirrors have a plug with square type pins, while the '08 has round pins. Second it will take 2 more wires to the passenger side, one for extention & one for fold.

Is there a source for one or the other type of pins both male & female? I think converting the wire harness on the truck (door) side instead of the mirror side would be best; change both sides in the door to the same round pin plugs like on the '08 mirrors. So where can I find the mate plugs to plug the mirrors into?

Re: 08 mirror swap

I am unaware of the "New style pins", do you mean that they are not like these pins? If they aren't then I do not know where to get them, or the truck side plug,(FORD?) But good luck finding a parts guy that can get them together for ya,,, lol

Re: 08 mirror swap

I made a mistake. The '06 mirrors have round pins/sockets. The '08 mirrors have square pins/sockets. The dealer is searching for the parts both pins & sockets to convert the '08 mirror harness to '06 so it will work. I think that for the extension I will have to add a wire to the passenger side. I think I can tap power inside the drivers door.

No I don't want to just twist & solder the wires together.

The '08 mirror up-down -left-right switch fits the '06 plug and works all functions.

The dealer ordered the wrong mirrors( I want the chrome ones), so they will be in next week.

Re: 08 mirror swap

Playing around today with preparing to install factory mirrors ('08) on my '06 I found the passenger side mirror plug has the round type of pins/sockets, the drivers side has round pins/sockets I will post pics on the 5th of both sides showing the connectors with wire colors and inside look of each plug.

What is the web-site that sells pins/sockets and plugs?

Do the '08 mirrors (factory) have power fold? I know they have factory extension.

Now I have misplaced the long set directions done a couple months ago.

JimT they are just like those. Where can I get a few of both male & female?
