08 tow mirrors replacement for 04

hey everyone....another question yet again....ive got those paddle mirrors on my truck and they are horrible! Does anyone know if i can get the 08 mirrors on an 04 truck? Ive found some online but they are like 800 bucks. I dont particualarly feel like spending $800 on a set of mirrors for those type. I think I can get the regular tow mirrors for around $160. Is the install difficult. Also if anyone knows a cheaper route for the newer style mirrors please let me know...or of a cheaper alternative for the tow mirrors. The truck is almost unsafe to drive right now with those mirrors becuase my blind spots are far too large.

I just swapped my '05 paddles for the '05 towing mirrors with heater and turn signals. It was a very easy swap but it did cost me $428 shipped. I thought about the new mirrors but let's face it... the truck is an '05... why screw up a good thing.

I just installed '09 mirrors (same as '08's) a few weeks ago and they are the cat's ass! I picked them up on ebay for $500 shipped, which seemed kind of high at first. Then I looked at '04-'07's w/heat and signal and those were $400. So I spent the extra $$ for the better visibillity, it was worth it and then some. The first 2 days I would get alittle motion sick with the new convex mirrors cause they were so big but that quickly passed. the install was easy, it took about 1.5 hrs per door and I took my time to do it right and figure how or if I wanted a switch for the heat. I will post a pic somethime today. If you have anymore questions let me know.

Yes, please post picks. I'm really interested in seeing what you had to do for hook-up conversion.

Sorry about not posting picks yet. Between work and the wife I honestly barely have time to breathe. I'll try to get them up asap.

ya definetly post some pics of your truck with the 08 mirrors! Im going to call Ford today and get a price on those mirrors versus a set of the old school tow mirrors. Is the install difficult for the 08 mirrors?

Just got a price for $400 shipped to my door from the Ford stealership. They said that I couldnt make the 08 mirrors work, (obviously it can be done) and also i asked them If i should get the ones with integrated turn signal and he said that it wasnt wired for it. I know that this is true but it can not be that difficult to run a couple wires!

I fianally got some time to post pics.

I did a search on this sight and found a wiring diagram to hook up the heat and marker/signal. I changed it up and hooked up the heat to my window lock so I didn't have to install a switch, and would be able to turn them off if needed. It is a yellow wire with green trace on both doors.

I think it's just the photo cause if you seen the truck in person you would see where the A$$*@LES in Columbus don't give a @#!* $%*! about anyones ride. So they'll ding, hit, chip, open door into, run your tailgate over, and smash your mirror off and then some . Hence the new mirrors.

I got the mirrors for $500 on ebay. I called ford they also told me $500 but when I went in to the dealer to pick up another part, I went to order then they told me $600 ea. at first I thought that quote was for the power fold but I gave him the part#.

The install is easy. I beleave there is 7 wires 3 origanals for adjusting, a ground, a marker, a turn sig. and a heat. Pull 2 wires through the door for sig. and marker. ground and heat will hook up in the door. use the quick splice connections and you'll be done in less than 2 hrs.

I already have an 03 with TT mirrors with heat. Are they easier to install if you have pre-existing TT mirrors or is new splicing required regardless?

Bump... Any update on whether these mirrors are a direct clip to the '05 Excursion currently with signals and heat?

I just finished putting 08 mirrors on my 2001 excursion. I had to change the plugs with the original mirrors on mine since I had the 2 plug style old mirrors.

Newer than 2001 should plug in, but the wiring from the truck plug will not match with the 08 mirror, so you'll have to move the pins to the correct spots on the mirror plug.
