whats up guys ,, im looking into a set of 24.5" freightliner wheels with low pro tires, i have a 06 f550 and i tow a pretty heavy trailer around only a couple times a year (25k lbs loaded) and also a 15k lb trailer loaded about once or twice a month but only local..
my first question is, will i need a lift? my 550 sits pretty high, i do have a bed on it, and i also have a 2,5" level kit in the mail..
secound, are these tires ok for towing? or should i put a "big rig" tires on the 24's?

Lots of big rigs use low pro tires. Assuming by low pro you mean size 285/75R24.5 instead of the taller 11R24.5.
The 285/75R24.5 is 41.4" diameter, with 502 revs/mile. So that will change your effective rear axle ratio by 22 percent. IOW, your 4.88 will feel like a 3.80 ratio. Is that going to be enough leverage for your max load? No, not if the trailer weighs as much as 25k. And you would struggle with a trailer that weighs 15K.
The 11R24.5 is even taller, so they would change your effective rear axle ratio by about 25.6 percent. Don't go there.
To make up for the taller tires and get back to at least a 4.30 equivalent ratio, you'd need to change your ring gear and pinion to one with 5.42 ratio. To get back to the full power and torque of the equivalent to 4.88 with stock-size tires, you'd need a 5.95 ratio ring gear and pinion. That's no big deal, because Dana makes ratios over 6.00, but they ain't cheap.

Are you doing this only for towing or mainly for aesthetic reasons? If you just want load capacity a 19.5 would be more than adequate with proper tires.
