4wd Conversion

Ok so i have a 2wd 01 reg cab xl, Im wondering what is the cheapest way to convert my 2wd to a 4wd. Also I heard that the 05 front suspension would almost bolt right up to my truck because of the coil springs. If thats the cheapest way then i will go that way and try and find a 05 parts truck. Also would it matter if either one of the parts truck were gas or diesel? Do they both have the same suspension set up? I know its possible, just dont know which way is the cheapest way.

Possibly the cheapest way is to trade your truck for a 4x4. But then you'd have a different truck.

Parts needed would be a tranny tailhousing and tailshaft, t-case, front driveshaft, front axle, etc.

Donor truck can be either diesel or gasser, although the front suspension (springs) would be heavier on a diesel truck, and would be preferred.

Liquidx203,
Any luck with your search? I have an '05 2wd Excursion and would like to convert it. Like you... a trade is not an option... I really think the conversion would be cheaper.

i have a 2000 super cab that we rolled last weekend that all running gear is good it is diesel and 4x4 if you had decent 2 wd body then you could put the cab and box on this frame and be set.only wanting 4000 for the whole thing or best offer other wise ill have all the parts that you are needing for sale. but would be cheaper to buy the whole thing.

If I remember right the 4X4 shackles are already installed in place. I believe that Ford left the shackles on there and just added coil towers, correct me if I am wrong.

So, I can just "bolt on" an '05 coil spring suspension on my '02 leaf spring setup?

No i heard that you can almost just bolt up the 05 4x4 front end in the 00-04 2wds because they both have coil spring setups.
