You have to change the coil springs towers.

I just converted my 2wd to 4wd I used a 2006 model axle in a 2000 model truck,,Oh, by the way the 2wd and 4wd of the same year have the exact same frames, all holes are drilled for both 2 or 4wd.

WOW hookin78! that Rocks!

What was the situation with the donor and how much do you figure that you put into this? I'm trying to figure out whether I do a swap or invest nearly 10k in selling my '05 2wd and buying a '05 4wd.

Hey there hookin78,

I remember you from some time back, I'm the guy that converted a couple of trucks with the leaf spring front axles but now it looks like you've one-upped me and have done a coil spring front axle!!

I just bought a rolled 05 4x4 and will be swapping it all over into my truck here soon so be ready for me pestering you with questions.

Keep the pics coming.

I am serious about doing this swap aswell. I have a 2001 2wd extracab, and want it 4wd. Trading it in on a 4wd is not much of an option in this market, and my truck has been flawless for the 110k miles I now have on it. 4WD would make this truck perfect!

I also want to do the coil over front conversion. What parts are needed from a donor truck? I have the 4spd auto tranny, is there any special parts needed to add the transfer case, or do I need a whole different 4wd transmission? Is it easier to go with the electric transfer case, or the manual?

What kind of total cost would I be looking at for parts (a rough guess would be great)

ouch, just thinking about the amounts of modding needed hurts my head. I'm almost willing to bet you might even need the ECU off a 4x4 Super Duty. All sorts of hassles if you ask me. I would make the truck a tuner truck (done nicely mind you)

Merriman,

Have you got a supercab longbed? I ask because I have a perfect rolling frame from an 05 supercab longbed 4x4 that appears to be straight. It was rolled and mightbhave a bent rim that's about it. I almost hate to strip it down for the parts to convert my crewcab longbed but might do it anyhow unless I sold it to someone for a fair price. It would be a major job, swapping over your cab, bed, engine and trans I suppose. I'd probably let it go for a couple grand.

Well all... I sucked it up and lost my axx on trading in my 2wd for the 4wd. I made the decision because adding miles to the 2wd was just dropping it's value and I was getting further and further away from where I eventually wanted to be (4wd Excursion). Good news is that I found a near showroom blk/gold diesel eddie bauer. And... since it was under 60k I was able to get a factory esp warranty at fordwarranty.com. Sometimes money isn't everything... I'm content now.

Have an extra set of New tow mirrors I now need to get rid of... anyone want to save a couple of bucks off of retail?

Blazin,

Nice looking rig you found there.

Now just get rid of that pesky ESOF and convert the front to coils.

Thanks DieselDeaf!

Since I'm new to this truck and am trying to get the most out of it... Dumb question... what exactly is the ESOF? And what benefit comes from changing the front to coils?
