What's so good about the 05-07 headlights compared to the 99-04 headlights? I'm looking at recon lights and both models look pretty much the same. I realize I'll have to modify the header panel for the newer lights. Thanks.

The 05 up uses the H13 which is quite possibly the stupidest design for a bulb ever foisted on the public. The terminals are so small that they overheat, even at stock wattages, and melt the plastic housing of the connectors. Higher than stock wattage bulbs are offered, but not recommended. There are Chinese connectors that are being used to make these kits and no harness will fix the problem of to small of terminals. As of now no USA made plugs are made that I have seen and wouldn't solve the problem anyway.
You have the best headlight housings made now '02-04 and the addition of our USA made harness and a set of Hella 80/100w 4k kelvin bulbs will give you fantastic lighting.
You can also do a fog bulb upgrade..75% as bright as Hids and mod the switch to use them with your high beams.

The 99-04 headlights are actually a 2-piece design as the headlight assembly is separated from the amber colored lower and "side" light. Look at LMC truck or Rock Auto to see the parts I am talking about (I am not suggesting you to purchase there, they just have a good way of looking up the parts by year). The 05-07 headlights combine the headlight assembly with the other lights stated above into 1 housing. When you see pictures of each, you will see what I am talking about.
I still use the stock lights in my truck, and I use Sylvania Ultra 4100K temp. I have never had any problems with them other than the fact that the 99-01 used a headlight material that wasn't clear. Ford changed this in 02-04 to a clear material so the light was whiter, not so dingy in color. I changed the headlight assembly to the later version and I couldn't be more satisfied (this is a direct replacement with no modifications having to be made).
Also, FYI I see that you are here in Ga as well. It is ILLEGAL to use 80/100W lamps in your headlights and you know from living here how bad the cops are. Everyone that I know around here that has HID or high watt headlights have gotten pulled over and most time ticketed for it. This is a huge reason I have kept my stock setup.

Not worth starting my own thread, but I thought I'd vent. I just bought a set of the replacement headlights from RockAuto. Just got in from installing them. They look great compared to the old opaque lenses even after using the headlight restoration kit on them. Only one issue in the installation - those stupid top clips. I want the name and address of the idiot that designed those. I think I'll send him a box of fresh bovine excrement... The bottom clip comes out ok if you push a 9/16 socket over the expansion tabs - just don't drop the socket. Took longer to retrieve it than putting the headlights in...

When I did my 06 front end conversion I had to also change the headlights. Biggest issue was the 99-03 headlights and 04-07 are different I burnt up the factory wiring by putting in higher power bulbs. I endend up making a wiring harness using two relays and some higher gauge wire now the brighter bulbs are working with no issues and the upgraded headlights and front end change the whole look of the truck

I have to agree about those clips being a PITA, but i think they already fired the designer. There are supposed to be better clips available. They were talked about in a thread a while back, with PN's posted. Hopefully you won't ever have to remove the clips again, though.
