I'm wondering about air horns. I posted long ago on this, and I know a lot of eBay ones aren't loud. Just wondering what you guys are using, and how you like them. Also, I'm looking for an easy install product as well.
I don't think I really *need* a tank, as I wouldn't use it very often or for long. but, if it's the best way to go for loudness and such, it would prbably be a good idea.
Yes I think most of those are train horn styles. You might beable to just find the horn you want elseware and buy one of there kits (-) the horn...LOL....

The train clones don't IMHO sound like a real train. They are close, and ungodly loud though. If you want a real train sound, pony up for the nathans or leslies on ebay. Expect to pay 400-500 for a used set, 800 for brandy new. Now if you want the clones, I will give you a great deal on my used cannon ball exprsses and my used seige horns. Just send me a PM. I ran them in parallel for a year then moved to a set of nathan's.
You will need a tank for any air horn.
the fire engine horn is called a "stutter tone" and runs about $110 new. I think I got mine from airhorns of texas.

Hello all, The chrome trucker/train horns are loud as stated in the above post. They are in tuned in the same chord as the Nathan/Airchime K3La. But not as throaty. The down side to real train horns is the sheer size of them. and the air consumption. We are not talking Psi levels but air supply. They are very thirsty. I have a K5La on my truck with a 3/8" line with 2 five gallon tanks. And i'm just getting away with using 3/8" because real train horns use 1/2" lines. I have installed a set of Grover shutter tones on my nephews truck and they sound great. He's a fireman here and they are allowed by law to have thenm on their trucks. Air Horns of Texas sells nice stuff. I have bought from Jason he's a nice guy. If you have the extra cash go for the gusto buy a nice Nathan P-3 or K3La or Leslie RS3L. But don't be surprised of the size of them. If you need any help feel free to PM me.
Good luck, John

I agree with JJK, the real train horns are large, and heavy! Stuffed the P3's on the inside of the frame rail on the drivers side. The larger horn faces forward and goes way up by the tranny, the other two face rearward by the tank. Used a cardboard template to figure out where to mount them. Can get a loud 30+ second continous honk (before it trails off like a dying moose) with 9 gallons of air at 145 PSI using 3/8 line. Will honk with less than 50psi, squeal starting at around 10psi.
FWIW saw some guy in LA with a 4 foot by about 2 foot tall horn on top of a SUV. It was fed by a 2 or 3 inch braided line. Sure wish I could have heard it honk. Must have been a fog horn.

Here ya go guys. Enjoy! THose big ships horns are Made By Leslie, Kockums, And Iybuki. They are loud ass hell and deep too. Some had electric compressors to run them or steam, I have a Leslie A-200 it's a big single note horn that they used on early diesel trains. and they have a bronze version for smaller ships. But its nothig compared to the Big boy ships horns LOL. But still a nice size.

My concern is the horn says 125 db, and the tank is a little less than 1.5 gallons. That seems a bit small compared to most of the other systems I looked at. Plus, I think most of the others were over 150db. Also uses 1/4" line & 110 psi. Seems a bit small?
I like the idea of having air for tires, but wouldn't use air tools from it, so I'm wondering what size tank I would need. I don't need it to blow for more than prolly 10 secs at a time, as I'd use it mostly for fun, and a bit for work too. Also, thinking of adding air bags later, so I'd like a system that will fill those too.
What size compressor/tank do you guys think I need? Is 2.5 gal enough or is 5 a must? Seems like most use Viair, so I could get their compressor and tank with another type of stutter tone horn...
Jerry, The stuff you posted is all very nice stuff. Yes Viair is a proven product. They are reliable. I've had mine on my truck for 4 years now. And it still runs perfect only problem i had was my solenoid went bad. No biggie. If you want to check out some nice stuff try this site. I bought all my stuff from them and buikt my set up.

Cool. Air Horns of Texas recommended a 2.5 gallon tank w the 325C and all the fittings. KT performance has better pricing, but I'm in the process of price shopping. Looks like a little over $450 shipped for a 2.5 gal tank w all the fittings, and a 400C Viair compressor or a little over $400 for the 350C. Anyone using these have a reccomendation on the compressor, thanks!
Still looking for compressor advice. Have it narrowed to Viair 325, 380 or 400. IIRC, the 325 and 380 only draw 16 amps or so, whereas the 400 draws up to 26. However, the 400c fills the tank in 1/4 of the time the others do. I know I've seen people complain about low power and dim headlights w high amp stuff...is 26 enough to do that? Just curious. Thanks!
Also, what's the significance of the duty cycle? I'm assuming a 33% one means it's good for use about 1/3 of the time, and a 100% is good for constant work? What's needed for a horn and air bags?
