I just bought an '08 Super Duty aluminum diff cover for my '05 and was wondering if anyone knew the specs on the bolts I should use. The cover is much thicker, so the old steel cover bolts won't work. Metric or SAE? Should I use aluminum bolts or steel? The factory bolts for this cover are over $11 a piece!! so that rules those out....
Thanks
Greg

I'm sure there metric! is that a 10.25 i was just on the phone with my parts guy and he has different list for gas /diesel srw /drw w/ different prices also if i find the part # i need ill order it to marrow and ask him for the bolt size!
x3 here. They are not metric--Much to my surprise!
It's a Ford-design axle that's been in production since Christ was a corporal, in a Ford axle plant in Sterling MI, with a 10.25" and later with a 10.5" ring gear. Not with a 268mm ring gear, but with a 10.5" ring gear. So it's no surprise here that the bolts that hold on the cover are SAE and not metric.
Now if it were a new design axle, it would probably be a "world market" design and have metric measurements as well as metric threads and bolts. I can't wait for my new SuperDuty pickup that will have a 268mm ring gear.
Man, that sounds huge, doesn't it?

My Sierra Blanca in the sig pic was a great pickup for 11.5 years. I sold it last year. Replacement is a 2012 F-150 EcoBoost SuperCrew Lariat.

I'm surprised the 10.25/10.5 isn't metric. My old man's '83 F250 has lots of metric hardware on it and that was built probably before the 10.25 was even conceived.
So the crowd says stainess? The allen heads must look sharp. Stainless allen screws it is!
Thanks guys

Where are we getting said diff cover, and a part# please.
Best price, but without the bolts and washers you have to have is Ford Diesel Parts at Powerstroke Shop. Be sure you order the one for 10.5" ring gear and not the bigger one. and I'm not positive that's the aluminum jobbie for the 2008, so call them and verify before you spend the money.
