To get an accurate estimate you would really have to see it in person. You would have to see each panel, check for any dings, nicks, or scratches, etc. So in short, its knda like asking who is better looking, Jennifer Love Hewitt, or Pamela Anderson. See what I mean? I would suggest asking around where you live, talk to some street rod guys, or maybe car clubs. They usually know a good, trustworthy shop.
2009 F350 CCLB Larry-at, 6.4, all the toys....
A full color change can be very expensive to do it right/completely, there was an article in one of the recent Diesel Power issues that mentioned it...10K wouldn't surprise me for a good color change job...
OMG where are you guys getting your trucks painted ? if you ask me you are getting ripped. I know i have a guy here where i live that would do mine for around 2-3k just how i wanted it. I had my 85 F-150 completly restored for $1500, i did some of the body work but it was a mess. but i guess maybe body work is cheaper here in Indiana?
1999.5 Ford F-250 7.3l 4x4 PSD With some extras
I used to do cars for a hobby. I used only Sherwin-Williams...long story-Fabulous product.
Part of your question should include how far down you wish to go, just cleanup of a good base, or all the way to shiny metal.
Breakdown of materials alone you should figure in the neighborhood of:
prep materials $100, which is some 50 grit paint buster, 80 grit cutter, 150 grit, couple qts of bondo, 240 & 320 grits to finish the primer.
Primer-sealer or Primer-surfacer, now days its all high tech "use it or loose it" mixes, poly or urethanes: $150-200/gal with reducer
Color, basecoat/clearcoat type, which is what we have on the truck now, $200-300/gal with reducer
Clearcoat, again about $300-350/gal.
The last car I painted was my daughter's '62 bug in 2000, I used S-W Multitones Green/Purple (@$300/pt for the color-I bought 3 pts of color alone), her paint job inside and out came to around $1500 in just materials.
Yes, there are the Earl Shives " I can paint any car for $199.95, but what are you getting??
If you want to have someone else do the work, spend some of Your time taking everything of the body yourself and give them just the bare truck, i.e. bumpers, grills, rubber, stainless, emblems, etc.
A "real" paintjob can get very expensive in a great big hurry, its all in what you want.
