New 08 Crew Cab 350 on order. First Crew Cab for me. Will be putting air bags on to stiffen up the "bounce" that comes from a 13000 lb fifth wheel on bridges, etc. From the photos I have seen of the engine area, it would appear that there is going to be very limited space for mounting any accessory. Anyone have any input on space under the rear seat, ie. room for mounting a small on board compressor for air suspension inflation?
Re: On Board Air Compressor for Air Bag Suspension
Check out extreme air by outback products. You can mount it undeneath the truck completely exposed to the elements. I mounted mine inside the frame rail just behind the transfer case. Had mine for 3 years now and it has worked great. Just re-oil the filter about twice a year.
Re: On Board Air Compressor for Air Bag Suspension
If all your doing is just airbags, then you can get away with the smallest VIAR compressor they make. Airbags only take a couple seconds to fill, and you dont need any reserve air.
Now, if your wanting a tank, and air horns, and all that, then you want the bigger dollar, high CFM rate compressors.
But for just bags, in a small area? Cheap sealed unit Viar.
Re: On Board Air Compressor for Air Bag Suspension
I already have the compressor. It is a Firestone brand from Michigan Truck Springs. It was on my 2002 F-250 but I had it mounted under the hood. No tanks or horns, only for air bag infaltion. Just hoping this one will mount under the seat somewhere.
Re: On Board Air Compressor for Air Bag Suspension
Eh, I wouldnt want that noise maker in the cab with me. If its a "sealed" unit, just make a frame clamp out of some square stock and all-thread and bolt it under the cab, and run a breather line to the inlet to feed it clean dry air.
For one, Ford is kinda particular about people drilling and welding on the frame, so try to avoid at all costs.
The lower square stock is cut to just give enough room to grab both all-threads. The UPPER square tube extends about a foot inboard of the frame rail, to allow the air tank "feet" to bolt to it.
Its been installed for about 3 years now, and its solid as the day I put it in.
