changin wheel studs..

Im curious on how hard it would be to change out all 32 wheel studs. I have an 01 and really like the new 20'' ford super duty wheels. I can pick up a set reasonably cheap, but they require a smaller wheel stud ( 14 x 1.5 ). Thanks for any reply.

I don't think the offset is going to be right. The tires will rub the springs.

Your truck already has 14mm studs, but the threads pitch may be different. Earlier trucks 99-?? had coarse threads, but Ford changed the later trucks to fine threads with the same diameter studs. Not sure when the change occurred, but I know by 04 they were fine threads.

Those wheels should bolt on with your studs and nuts. But like was said, the wheel offset won't work. DON'T try to use spacers, as they're killers. You don't want to be passed by one of your fancy wheels going down the highway.

i did the upgrade, you have to get a set of HUB-CENTRIC wheel spacers, not just the regular find that supports the wheel by just the lugs. Our trucks are just to heavy for the regular kind, and they dont use different lugs they use the standard 14X2.0. what i had to do was go to a local trailer dealership and get trailer style lugs that would fit down in the spacers and then i used my stock lug nuts on the outside so that the little hub caps would pop on, look at the daily driver ling in my sig to see the finished product.

So, where do you find these "Hubcentric" wheel spacers? And how do they work? Your wheel centers on the hub, does the spacer have a place for the wheel to center on? And then you STILL have the distance from the original hub, to the wheel, for the weight to be distributed across, and "Leverage" working against you.. IMHO

you can find them online, i ended up ordering mine off of eBay. the hubcentric spacer has a lip on it for the rim to sit on so the lugs dont bare all the weight of the truck. if you take your hub cap off, you can see that the rim also rest on the hub, thus making it "hubcentric". and yes you have leverage working against you, because the wheel is farther out away from the center of the axle, but it is the only way to run 05'-10' rims on your 99'-04' SD. i have them on mine, you can look at the link for the daily driver truck in my sig.

I went through the stud / lug nut thing...the easiest solution is Gorilla Brand adapter washers; allows you to use quality m14 x 2 cone lug nuts on hubcentric wheels. Don't use the Chinese made Dorman lugs...they rust in minutes! The Mcgards are the nicest...the Gorilla stainless you'll be happy with(thats what I got), but they are made in Tiawan for the same money as the nicer Mcgards. The downside? You'll have $200+ dollars in lugs & washers, but they will look great as long as you own the truck. Good Luck!
