Euro / Mexican Tail lamps Wiring

I finally got a set of Mexi/Euro (red on top/yellow in the middle/white on the bottm) tail lamps with the full harness. Has anyone wired a set of these in before? Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: Euro / Mexican Tail lamps Wiring

Neat looking lights, obviously you need the special wireing setup for separate turn sigs and brake lights. Like the Chebys have. Then when you wire trailers up there is another box you need I think so the turns on the trailer will work for brakelights too.

I kind of like the idea of the 08 tails, with the backup lens on top/upsidedown??? LOL Looks kind of neat/different. Wireing them would be much easier! LOL

Re: Euro / Mexican Tail lamps Wiring

Actually the trailer wiring is seperate from the truck. It has its own fuses.
I have been thinking about this since i 1st saw these years ago. I already have the wiring figured out . I just need these lenses and harness to complete it.

Re: Euro / Mexican Tail lamps Wiring

A while back another member got a hold of these tail lights. His were from Australia, so I wonder if they are the same?

Anyway, I copied his post about what he did to get them to fit - because I wanted/want to do this too. Here that is and I hope that some or all of it makes sense to you....

If your not familiar with these tail lights check my truck pictures in my sig and you will see the difference between these lights and the good old made in the USA type. The Aussie tail lights have a separate amber turn signal as opposed to the USA type that have the turn signal incorporated into the brake lights.

The difficulty in installing these lights are that because of the separate turn signal portion of the lens the lights dont bolt right in. On my 04 truck there was part of the truck bed sheetmetal that runs across the area where the USA lens fits. This has to be cut out to fit the Aussie lenses. An air powered cut off wheel will take care of it.

The other difficult part is that since the USA trucks have a combo brake and turn signal you have to come up with other wires for these two operation separately to run these lights. I chose to run a pair of wires from the front turn signals, one going to each rear turn signal. I also had to find a brake light that wouldnt blink when the turn signal was used. Luckily there is a lead from the center mounted brake light coming out of the stock harness right behind the rear license plate. I picked up this wire and ran this to each brake light.

If you take a look at the pictures you will see the sockets (bulb holders) have different connections. I could not find any plugs in the USA that would fit these sockets so I made up my own using small spade connectors and potted them in silicone. I fabricated a short pigtail loom for each light using split loom cover and weatherpack waterproof connectors.

The light bulbs that fit into the sockets are the old style lamps not the new ford style so they are readily available at any auto parts store.

In order to do a clean job it took me about 6 hours to make the pigtails, run the wires from the front signals and to trim the sheetmetal. A pigtail from an Aussie truck is available but it was cost prohibitive at $250 USD. Even with that loom I would have had to run the wires from the front of the truck.

Bone head me didn't copy this member's name though. Sorry about that.

Another member Bella_PSD was chasing down this same mod. Maybe you can PM him and track down more/better info.

I hope any of this helps. Good luck on getting those installed. Maybe I should try Mexico as another possible source for these lights?

Jon,

I finally got the AMBER tail lights from Australia!! I installed them back in July of 07. I also have the Australia pig tails for the lights. This mod cost way to much but I still like it. The worst part was cutting the sheet metal behind the USA tail lights.
