Unless you are towing REALLY heavy 4.56 will be too low.
I have 315(35) with 4.30 and it tows great, glad I have it, but unloaded stinks. I am actually thinking about a GV to go on it.
The perfect (IMHO) is 4.10 for the 315(35) tire. Best of both worlds.
On a side note, most 35 are actually closer to 33.5, so use that number when figuring in the calculators.
A while back I wrote an Excel sheet with the different sizes and ratios to get a close to accurate rpm for your truck.
I looked into that once Don, and I think 4.10s will bring you the closest to stock. Of course, if you have any plans for tires larger than 35s you might want to consider the 4.56s.

I don't know what to do, I definatly want to get 35's real soon, but I don't wanna swap 4.10's in there, it's not THAT much of a difference to justify the cost. however who knows in the future if I'll go with an even larger tire, 37"-38" is probably the biggest I'd ever want for my needs.
I guess I'll jsut stick with the 3.73's and 35's for now and add some more power mods to make up the difference unless I can find anyone with 4.30's who'd wanna swap axles.
most likely I'll go with a bigger lift and tire in the FAR FAR future, and if I did swap for 4.10's I'd kick myslef later on.

id save your money or put it towards more power. ive towed over 10k numerous times with 37s and 3.73s with no problems, but im making a lot of power to make up for it. if it were my truck, i wouldnt spend the money on gears, i didnt break down for gears until i got to these 40s...
I just installed 4:30s and I'm running a 315/75/16 BFG Mudder. The tire isn't a true 35" it measures 34.6" but close enough. the 4:10s will bring the effective gear ratio to about a 3:70 or so. That's as close to stock as you're going to get. I chose the 4:30s over the 4:10s because my 5er is a bit heavy and I wanted that extra grunt. The 4:30s bring the effective gear ratio to about a 3:89. The 3:89 is just between 3:73s and 4:10s.
What I've noticed
@ 55mph (really about 60 w/tires) my aprox rpms are 1750
@ 60mph (really about 66 w/tires) my aprox rpms are 2000
@ 65mph (really about 71.5 w/tires) my aprox rpms are 2250
I think I'm actually getting better mileage. I don't have to put my foot into it to get the beast moving or keep it moving.
I'm happy I went with the 4:30s over the 4:10s. I can't wait to pull the trailer next week!
