I have an 04 6.0 liter 4x4 long bed Ford. I have had the key pad replaced once by the dealer. They told me it was an aftermarket item and they would not replace it, yet I was able to prove it came from the factory, so they did. The concern is, it stopped working the other day and I want to know if I can get an after market one to replace it and how hard is it? The one I have is not inset into the door, rather it is raised up about 1/2". This is the reason the dealer thought it was after market. Does it have batteries that just died and thats why this has happened twice in 4 years or is it a bad product? Thanks for your help in advance.
As said, it does have a battery. I replaced mine a few months ago. The unit will start flashing and unlock-lock-unlock the doors (when you activate to unlock) to give a warning when the battery gets low.
The battery is a RayoVac BR2335 Lithium. I was not able to find the battery locally, so I ordered it on the net.
I have not had any issues with mine since I replace the battery.
