Key pad on door dead, HELP!

I have an 04 6.0 liter 4x4 long bed Ford. I have had the key pad replaced once by the dealer. They told me it was an aftermarket item and they would not replace it, yet I was able to prove it came from the factory, so they did. The concern is, it stopped working the other day and I want to know if I can get an after market one to replace it and how hard is it? The one I have is not inset into the door, rather it is raised up about 1/2". This is the reason the dealer thought it was after market. Does it have batteries that just died and thats why this has happened twice in 4 years or is it a bad product? Thanks for your help in advance.

2004 6.0 Liter F350 4x4 stock.

IIRC, the aftermarket add-on does have a battery, as they were not nard wired in.

It's got a battery inside the size of a nickel. Mine also quit working several years back and I had to dissassemble the unit to get the battery replaced... Problem was, it never worked the same after that... I dicked around with it for awhile but never did get it working again... It's now an unfunctional ornament on my drivers side door...

As said, it does have a battery. I replaced mine a few months ago. The unit will start flashing and unlock-lock-unlock the doors (when you activate to unlock) to give a warning when the battery gets low.

The battery is a RayoVac BR2335 Lithium. I was not able to find the battery locally, so I ordered it on the net.

I have not had any issues with mine since I replace the battery.

Hope it helps.

My local dealer has them in the parts department. I am not sure of the price, but if it really interest you I could find out and maybe get you one.

You gently pry the cover off. There is a slot on the right hand side, you start there and gently move around it.

So when you pry this off, you need to re glue it to the door? If you replace the battery, does it loose the code to open the doors? How do you reprogram the remotes?

Very good questions. I'd like to know the answers too. Perhaps there is an instruction/installation manual/pdf file floating around on this website, or on the net that will answer these questions?

You just program your truck to accept the signal that it is putting out. I don't remember the process, but its just like programing the truck to accept a new remote.

You do not pry it off, you pry it apart, replace the battery and put it back together.
