keyless entry on door!

can i put a keyless entry code module on my door? I know they are just stick on with no wires and module is behind kick panel. Is this possible? how hard is it? I will get prices from FoMoCo tomorrow if possible.

Re: keyless entry on door!

Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to get an aftermarket alarm and add on the keyless entry for about $50?? Then you would have a fob, unless that is the reason you want the keypad.

Re: keyless entry on door!

If your talking about this , yes, many of us have. It just sticks on the door and programs like a key fob. I think you can only program up to 4 so you will loose one of your key fob usage.

Hope it helps.

Re: keyless entry on door!

I added one on mine, I purchased mine directly from ford, but I understand you can also find them on ebay not sure if much of savings however might be worth checking.

Chase,

Click here to see mine. I bought it off Ebay. It was $42.00 plus shipping. Click here for the cheapest one on Ebay right now for $65.00.

Re: keyless entry on door!

I'm glad this topic came up. It was one thing I was a little bummed that my 2000 does not have that the newer trucks have. It'd be nice to leave the truck running and lock it, and come back to it and use the keypad to get in.

Thanks for posting the Ebay link, Dan. It looks to be the same Ford part that Barrett posted. I think I'll order one.

If your key fob won't unlock your truck while its running, the keypad won't either. The keypad is just a glorified key fob. It has to be programmed just like you would for adding a new fob.

Is the keypad on the Explorer hard wired into the truck? Or is it one of the "stick on" jobs (what I have)? I'm willing to bet its hard wired into the truck. The stick on keypads are just another wireless fob, that requires you to push 5 buttons instead of one, like the fob.

I was quite shocked a week ago when someone at work came in complaining that he had just been written a ticket for $101 by the local cops (somewhere in the seattle/tacoma area) for starting his Cummins IN HIS DRIVEWAY, ON HIS PROPERTY, then going back inside the house while it warmed up and thawed the windshield. The cops said it is illegal to leave a running vehicle unattended, period, and cut him ZERO slack.

That is crap, I would make them show me the law on paper before I would give in to that one.

In NY State it's also illegal to idle a diesel for 5 minutes or longer.

Try asking the E-Con officer who writes you the ticket to show you the law first. You'll probably wind up with a fist full of tickets.

Re: keyless entry on door!

while it IS bogus, there's also a 5 min idle law in California too. Getting cited in your own driveway is pretty lame.

I'm lucky - where I live you can walk into the grocery store with your truck idling and unlocked, nobody's going to mess with it. Though the dogs in the back seat augment their decision making I'm sure.

And while it may be illegal to leave an idling vehicle unattended - I'd bet $5 that cop does the same thing when he's on a traffic stop.
