Lifts and max towing weight

A question from a new TheDieselStop member. I am contemplating a 4" lift kit for my 350. Is there a negative effect on max tow weight or max load capacity? In other words, does a change in leaf springs reduce my "one ton" capability?

Thanks for a great site with super folks who contribute honestly.

Re: Lifts and max towing weight

it greatly depends on whose lift kit you use.

Re: Lifts and max towing weight

Thanks. I've been researching Superlift and Rancho. I like the Superlift because it gives you the option of new rear leaf springs vice a taller block. I guess I need to check with the manufacturer.

Re: Lifts and max towing weight

Hey FU (sorry had to do it) welcome to the site. I live up in Richmond. My pictures are not up to date, but I have a Donahoe Racing lift with Deaver Springs. Only American made springs out there. You can get an all rear spring lift with them. They use more leaf springs. Makes them softer for unloaded conditions.
I have had 3800# in the bed with no problems.

Good luck!

Re: Lifts and max towing weight

I did the rancho 4inch kit so that I wouldnt be too much taller (helps with the gooseneck) and beacuse it is a little more cost friendly. Then I got a set of the 5inch deaver rear springs and got rid of the blocks completely. When I talked to the people at Deaver they told me that towing alot of weight on there lift springs is not a good idea and will wear out there multiple spring rates. Therefore I added the firestone airbags (over spring type) and got a set of the ez ride concepts, 6 inch spacer/adapters.
Hope I could help

Re: Lifts and max towing weight

Ive got the procomp 6.5 inch lift and I tow my 6K pound boat all over the place and have no problems. I am also a contractor by trade, and constantly have all kinds of crap in the bed, pallets of tile, bricks, allways something. if you tow a lot of weight, get some airbags for the rear, I got those too, it eliminates pretty much any sag you get, plus you get quite a bit more payload capacity

Re: Lifts and max towing weight

I have a Donahoe 4 1/2" lift, which leaves the stock springs. I have not had a problem towing my 29' toy hauler through the Sierra's. And the best part is the ride does not appear, (to me anyway) much worse than stock. From the research I did out here, prior to doing my lift, most, if not all, lift shops and performance places recommend the DR lift for Fords...FWIW
