I just got my Line-X liner sprayed in yesterday , now the mind is starting to work overtime and I am thinking of having the lower part of the body (doors, quarter panels) done to prevent stone chips.
Has anyone done this? How is it to wash, wax around, etc.?
The dealer said he has done this many times, but I want some real-world input.
Thanks in advance!

I have been thinking about the same thing lately. Next spring or summer I think I am going to do it. The stone chips are starting to show and I like the look of Line-X anyway. May get some step bars and do the same. My line has gotten slightly dull over the course of a year, however I haven't really scrubbed it down yet either Chris

I have run into the same problem with stone chips --- in fact I have been picking up chips behind the windows on both doors --more on the driver's side -- I think a lot of this comes from the road sanding in the winter. I have the truck going in for new paint next week and am going to put the 3M guard on the lower parts of the doors and quarter panels -- front of the hood and door windows -- not cheap -- about $400 to do the truck. After the paint -- trip south of 49 to MSP to get the TopUp tonneau installed -- finally a cover that will let me put the tall stuff in the back and push button too
Pics in the sig.
Line-X. Would do it again. I wash the sprayed rocker section the same when I wash the truck. Gets dirty, power wash looks good as new without the elbow grease. No rock chips, no shovel chips (digging out of mud/snow,) no worries.
Had it sprayed underneath the fender flares as the flares were rubbing the paint off.
Armor All or similiar seems to work good to shine up Line-X when it starts to fade a bit.
I would only do this on an older truck or one you plan to keep forever. I would guess resale will take a hit as most people expect paint even if Line-X is more practical.
I used herculiner on my black truck for all that and it looked really good, I did get alot of compliments on how it turned out. Best part is it only cost me $90 and a couple hours of my time! I'm seriously thinkin about painting the 85 project truck with the herculiner. I did that with a 77 chevy I had and it looked pretty tough! Only think holdin me back is Nancy want's the truck painted purdy!
Herculiner: You bought a one gallon kit of Herculiner for $90. We spray about 4.5 gallons of LINE-X in a truck. 4.5 gallons of Herculiner would cost $405.
I used one gallon and had some left over. You don't need 4 gallons to do the truck body. I can see the bed taking more cause herculiner in the bed sux but it works pretty dang good everywhere else! Shoot I just painted my trailer with a gallon of herculiner and it's 27'.

There is a Jeep located somewhere near me that has the whole exterior coated with black bedliner material. I think it looks good.

I saw an Excursion a while back done up entirely in black bedliner. Didn't look "good" IMO, but it was definitely "unique". Must have cost the guy a fortune.
On the rocker panels coated with bedliner. I knew a guy about 25 yrs ago who did that on a Blazer.
Sounds like a good idea, but have no idea how well it lasts or how easy to maintain.
I used bedliner for the tread area on my fiberglass cab steps. Should have used it instead of paint on the front portion that takes the rock hits. Has lasted fairly well, but holds the dirt well too. Needs a little extra time with the pressure washer.
you ever sprayed anything and not put texture on it? just leave it smooth? this is what i'm thinking of doing to my rockers ....
i have sprayed some samples (SuperLiner )w/o texturing, and it looks pretty smooth and shiney. just wondering if you had done any on a vehicle and maybe had some pictures
Yea, occasionally we get requests of very little texture.
Here's the only pic I have available. We LINE-X'd the grill and the upper and lower portions of the bumper. The customer wanted it to look like plastic (very little texture). We also sprayed it with black Nason (no fading).
I am getting my Dodge coated with a "no-textured" finish all the way around this week.
Its in the shop right now for rustproofing as well.
