I decided last weekend after having to leave my buddy's truck stuck in the mud and almost getting myself stuck trying to pull him out that I would get a winch. I want to get a new front bumper that also has a built-in receiver for helping park my trailer in tight spots. I have poured over specs and different brands but there are very few reviews and comments. If anyone out there has an aftermarket bumper I would appreciate some opinions-has the bumper held up well (the finish too), and did it bolt on with no modifications or hassles? Also, would a 12,000 poind winch be adequate for recovery or shoud I go at least 15,000?
thanks,
dave

Reason: help-wrong forum. Meant to be in general aftermaket and upgrades
Check out Ambush Bumpers, very high quality well made bumpers. They have made a different pattern for every different year and make truck, you get a bumper that is made for your truck not some generic one size fits all design. Winch door built in with receiver if desired, anyway I love mine and think those guys do a great job, check them out ambushbumpers.com

Many winch bumpers are available from pure customs to off the shelf...we carry many. We also are a Warn dealer and IMO get the biggest one you can afford for a SD.
Pm-email me if I can help.

Make sure you give any manufacturer you choose a thorough look. Many that I've seen only have the option of winch -OR- receiver. If you find someone that will make one custom for you, you'll probably have a better chance of getting what you want.

I picked my Ranch Hand bumper up in Athens GA. I was in Winder GA getting my chip reburned and one of the guys with PHP knew of a guy that had one for sale for $400. It bolted right up and has front receiver.
You can also get a snatch block that will multiply the pulling power of the winch.

Ranch hand seems to be a big seller. I've only seen a couple and their nice. I helped my buddy install road armor bumpers on his ram1500. They(the bumpers) where solid and well made.
Thanks for the ideas folks. I actually meant to post this in the general upgrades and aftermarket forum, not the 7.3 liter, but you guys had some good ideas. I really like the Westin Max set-up but they don't make them for anything older than an '08. I'm now considering either the Smittybuilt M1 for about $1,000 or the Road Armor Stealth for about $1,500. I can't afford a $2,500 bumper (not including the winch).
