I have a 2005 F-350 King Ranch SRW with 3.73 gearing. I am trying to decide between 4" lift and 6" lift. If I go with 4" I will run 35" tires. If a 6" lift I will run 37" tires.
My question is....how much power loss do you actually detect by moving up to 37" tires? How much strain does it put on tranny/engine?
How know this is somewhat subjective.....just trying to decide.
thanks

I went wih the 4" lift and 35 x 12.5 x 18 for tires. I have seen 3 to 4 MPG loss and a little less on take off. I mainly ket it to a 4" lift because I have an Artic Fox camper with slide and the 4" lift means I have to lift it all that much higher. The tires do ride a lot better with the load. You may also want to consider front wheel bearing wear and ball joint ware with the larger tires. I just replaced mine after 136,000 miles. Bigger tires do mean more wear, but also gives you a reason to go with the Dynatrac system. With the 6" lift you can also change the front and rear over to a coil spring/link system. Just depends on how much free $$$ you have laying around. Also 37" tires cost more than 35" tires. Well that is my .02$

So let me get this straight? You bought a beautiful 9000 pound truck and you want to lift it up 4-6 inches in the lift kit and another 6-10 inches with tires and your plan is to take this truck where? If you want the truth...I put a 4" lift on my Jeep Unlimited and 33's and that was 8 inches lift total. Your MPG will fall considerably with the 37's and not as bad with the 35's. If your putting tires that big on any truck...then you are not worried about gas mileage. Power loss is relative to the gears you run in the rear ends. Huge tires need more gear to make them have the benefit...so think about what you want your final drive to be once your done building the truck UP. Rolling mass increases will always rob you of power...so figure out how much power your willing to give up for the increase in altitude of your truck. You can get back some of that power with accessories, programmers, gears etc...
Just enjoy your truck and reprogram your speedo to match your new rubber.
So where do you take a 9000 pound huge lifted truck anyway?
Go with 6". Countless post of guys who went 4" and wish they went 6". It's a thrill when you 1st lift it, but you get use to it real fast and in the end you will want more. I didn't think I wanted more than 4", but soon after went 6" and now want a few more. I just reread my reply.....that can read wrong in so many ways.....

I'm on 6" with 35s and still get 14+ city and 16+mixed. Going to 37s you should swap in 4.30s but that will limit you if you decided to drop to 35's later. I'd go to 4.10s if running 37's but add to that some power with an SCT with custom tunes.
Your goals can be reached with good planning!

Some stock stuff, some modded stuff, some deleted stuff.....
To me 4in. and 35s make a good looking functional truck. I can still pull most gooseneck trailers and tow all the time with no problems. 6inches and 37s look great but if you use the truck for anything other than a grocery getter then a gear swap is necessary and towing some trailers will be iffy.

That's what I am thinking....Thanks

4.5 in. Donahoe (now Icon) lift, 35/12.50/18 Toyos on 18x9.5 American Racing Chambers w/ teflon coating.
The tires currently have 43000 miles on them and will probably go 10k more.
