Removing Rubber Bumpers Behind Bug Shield

My old plastic Ford accessories bug shield has cracked so I bought a new Stampede plastic chrome shield to replace it. Looks pretty cool but when I went to install it I ran into a glitch.

The old Ford shield had rubber bumpers that affixed to the hood to prevent the shield from coming into contact with the hood. The new chrome shield is a lower profile unit and does not need the bumpers.

Does anyone have a technique, solvent, or other product they can recommend to remove those old rubber bumpers from my hood and not damage my truck's paint?

Thanks for the info.

They should pull off pretty easily, then use something mild like WD-40 to get rid of the any left over adhesive. Just keep in mind this will also take off any sealant/wax, so when you are done make sure you go over that area again with sealant/wax/LSP of your choice.

If you have a heat gun, use it to soften the bumpers / adhesive. Careful not to bake the paint. It will bubble off if you don't pay attention. Then follow Brian 444's advice with solvent and rewax.

A hair dryer will work fine for heating up the rubber, and it is not nearly as likely to bubble the paint.
