Silverstars gone after 9 months

Just replaced the second Silverstar lamp last night a MINUS 10 F The first one went about 3 weeks ago. These are the ones I put in last spring with the headlight harness I built.

Definitely not very cost effective lighting.

Re: Silverstars gone after 9 months

I have had mine with the upgraded harness for 12 months now, and I am using the Hi/Lo option with no problem.

Re: Silverstars gone after 9 months

Like it says over on the Slvania site. A bulb rated for X hours, some will die quicker, some will live a fair amount based on conditions and other will last forever. Probably some CYA there on their part but it is just advice. Some Times They Do, Some Times They Don't. It is a fact, any bulb will burn hotter with more power going to it. Bulbs are like car batteries, more heat equals less life.

Re: Silverstars gone after 9 months

I've had mine for about 16 months with no problmes. They are better than stock, but I still need more light.

Doug

You didn't touch the bulb did you? I know you didn't, but I had to ask.

Re: Silverstars gone after 9 months

The new injectors are making the truck so fast that the light is forced back into the bulbs!! This is a common problem and will always cause bulb failure.

Re: Silverstars gone after 9 months

If ya want more light go here , Hella 80/100 are cheeper and way brighter than Silverstar's. Just make sure you install a new set of relays and wires to take the load off the stock switch.

Yep, I hear ya'. The high G forces, both acceleration and braking, the bulb filament are subjected from these Powerstrokes just naturally shortens bulb life. Does wonders for hairdo's and smiles also!

Plus, all the reading I've done tells me the Silverstars have a shorter life expentancy than the stock bulb.

Re: Silverstars gone after 9 months

I've got 40kmi on mine, and I usually drive with the lights on, day or night.

I think the key is to put the stockers in the glove box for spares. It keeps murphy away... The only bulbs that blow are the ones you don't have spares for.

I seem to loose oberhead marker bulbs alot. I think I need to change my remote start to a steady light rather than a flash.

I would suspect the harness, if you're driving them brighter, they they'll burn up that much faster.

Re: Silverstars gone after 9 months

Kevin,

I had basically the same results as you with two trucks. With an upgrades harness, the life at the higher voltage is, well, consistent but short. Then I looked at the economies.

Since I an running a harness, and have both high and low when the "highs" are on, I went back to the second in line bulb. It has a much longer life and honestly, is bright enough for me.

Re: Silverstars gone after 9 months

Kevin,
I with everyone else. I have had mine in for 2 years. I think the bad vibes coming from those bad injectors did them in.
