Your first question should be should you mount a snowplow of any kind? And if yes, then how heavy can it be?
Quote:
K3 F350 6.0l 4x4, Crew cab,
Ford says you cannot mount a snowplow of any kind without the Ford factory snowplow prep pkg. And if "K3" means 2003, then that pkg was not available for CrewCab PSDs because even the lightest-weight snowplow would overload the max front GAWR of 5,200 pounds.
But if you want to cheat a little bit, then Ford says A SuperCab longbed PSD 4x4 can have a light-weight snowplow of not more than 100 pounds of permant mount weight, plus 680 pounds of removeable snowplow weight. That's not a very heavy-duty snowplow.
The snowplow prep pkg for 2003 was primarily code X front springs rated at 6,000 pounds. The front GAWR was still 5,200 pounds, but the heavier-duty front leaf springs helped hold up the snowplow without so much front-end sag.
As to brand names and models of available snowplows, I don't have a clue. But check the specs of the snowplow and consider only the ones that have a max weight of 680 pounds of removeable weight. And I'll bet the "best" snowplows are heavier than that.

I found the best plow avaliable in my opinion and its the only one with a galvanized finish ,check out Arctic Snowplows | Chasse Neige , they are right there in Canada, Larry, as for mounting , these trucks are made for it ,I have plowed a lot of snow and put blades on f-150s and plowed commercialy if a 1/2 ton can take it I see no prob. w/f-250 , some of these guys treat their trucks like little girly barbie trucks , USE IT ,thats what its made for ,just dont mount up a 12' v-plow or something rediculous , any dealer will let you know where you are safe ,also for 250.00 bucks you can add a leaf to the front ,will lift about 2" and ride great with a blade, good luck , let me know which way you go .

I've plowed snow for many years, so I've used a few different snowplows. Take a look at Western or Boss snowplows. The Western/Boss snowplows have the vehicle mount/plow hook-up that's WAY ahead of the Arctic setup.
thanks for all the info. I've got info and pricing on the Meyer, Western, Arctic. It's funny that I got 3 completely different weight congfigurations from each, 840 lbs, 540 lbs, and 640 for the Arctic. Apparently they all use different math. Was leaning toward the Arctic because of the 10 guage blade.
Jon.

I've had a Western and Boss , the cutting angle on the Arctic and construction is far superior, check out the new galvanized finish it'll throw the other guys to the curb .

Only if you can put up with the outdated and antiquated way that the plow/pump/lights are attached to the truck. The snowplows that I used in the 70's were setup like that. PITA is a gross understatement.
I agree that the western is the better choice for ease of putting the plow on and taking it off of your truck, as for weight the plow in my sig is 699Lbs. and as for the plugs there's 3 one for power, lights, plow controls. and whether or not it is painted, powder coated, or galvanized it will eventually rust and rot. Don't believe me look at galvanized steel water pipes, it is just how well you protect your investment is how long it will last.

People need to to learn to read and look a bit deeper than the opening page , all plows nowadays remove plow, pump, and lights with quick hook-ups , I'll refrain from further comments
