Stock Radio - Two plugs in the rear

I have a stock Ford radio in my 2001 PSD....single CD/Cassette/AM/FM. The factory wiring goes into a conector (on the back of the radio) which has 2 rows of pins. There is another slot for a connector (on the back of the radio) which has 3 rows of pins...this 3-row connector slot is not used on mine.

Any of you know what the connector with three rows of pins is for?

I want to add a Sirius satellite radio and am wondering if it can be done through this connector....or will I have to buy a new after-market radio?

Thanks

Florida ED

Re: Stock Radio - Two plugs in the rear

The "unused" 20-pin recepticle allows you to do exactly as you're thinking, and play your satellite radio through your headunit. I installed one in my 2002 6-cd player (Also works for the single CD/Cassette HU) for my MP3 player, and it works GREAT:

Purchase a PIE adaptor FRDN-AUX (Precision Interface Electronics). Here's a description of what it does:

The PIE FRDN-AUX Auxiliary Input Converter connects to the CD changer data port of your factory radio to create an external auxiliary input that has a pair of left and right RCA audio inputs. With this converter installed, you can connect any external audio device that has an audio output directly to your factory radio without using an FM modulator and hear the audio from your factory sound system. The FRDN-AUX plugs directly into the rear of the headunit using the 20-pin connector.

Here's a link to one retailer:

They're about $70

Re: Stock Radio - Two plugs in the rear

That connector is for a 6 disc changer. But there are adaptors to tap it for adding auxillary audio gadgets like Sirius. PIE comes to mind.

You'll get better sound out of an aftermarket deck, but for a simple direct wired solution, these adaptors work
