OK, I tried the Ford radio removal tools. I had the right side unclipped, but the left side would not release. After numerous tries, now the right side wont release and it seems as though the spring clips wont release at all. When I put in the tools I don't feel the clips like I did at first try. Is it possible to screw up the clips with just the removal tools???
I want to keep the factory radio so I dont want to destroy it.
Any experts out there who have had the same problem???
Well, it lookslike I posted prematurally. After searching, it seems that I am not the only one who has had problems. I hope I don't have to use a crow bar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The tools work by depressing the locking pins on the side of the radio. If you pushed the tools too far into the radio, they won't release the locks. Remove the tools, and reinsert. You should here them click when they go in about 1/2 inch. You may have to 'play" with the tools to get tehm to rleseae the locks.
It's a trial and error type thing. Whatever you do, don't force the tools. If they break, you have to remove th whole dash. No fun.

Easy way I do this is the front of the dash just snaps off. pull a couple of wires and the radio comes out with it. Unplug wires behind radio and take the whole thing out.

Yea, I tried everything, I tried to put the tosl in just a little bit and never felt them touch a thing. I put them in a little further, and while I felt them touch what I thought was the clip release, I never got the damn thing to come out. Is it possible to screw up the clips with the tools alone? I can't believe I could damage them that bad with the limited movement you get through the holes.
I put the two tools in the corresponding holes on the faceplate until I hear and feel them touch the clips. Then I use my thumbs to press outwards on the tools themselves while I also pull the radio out. Sounds stupid but it works for me, unless one or both of the clips is damaged.

I have damaged the clips on mine by using to much force. They will no longer unlock with tool. What I did was pop the dash out a little then get a long screwdriver and push the clips in from behind the dash. Works great and slides right out. Plus while pushing in on the clips you can put a little pressure on the radio to push it out. I unlock one side then the other and push the rest of the way. Hope this helps
