Theft Protection - 2nd break in!!

Well, it's been a few days since I've been on here, since my truck was broken into on Tuesday and the dang thief got away with my laptop and GPS that was in my truck. It was the classic screwdriver in the key hole, and prying of the drivers side door handle. They got me on the passengers side about 3 months ago, and I replaced it with a rear handle with no key hole - and removed the 'rod' that connects the lock cylinder to the lock. Needless to say, that I'm furious. I wish that I could have walked out and seen someone in my truck!! Ok - couple of questions...

1. Does anyone make a billet door handle thats not chrome?? These plastic handles are not cutting it. If nobody makes them, I might myself.
2. If I get rid of the key hole on the drivers side as well, and my batteries die completly - is there any was that I could get access to the batteries without access to the hood lever in the cab?
3. What alarms are worth getting? I'm contemplating buying an alarm, or rigging up an LED light on the dash that looks like an alarm. Who's done it?
4. I will get a set of Jimmy Jammers now... If you haven't gotten a set yet - learn from my mistakes! Get them!

Thanks guys! I'm ready to hear any and all suggestions.... I'm tired of being broken into!!

Re: Theft Protection - 2nd break in!!

I recently installed a Crime Stopper CS2016DPFM alarm and remote start and I like it a lot. The shock sensor seems quite effective. If you knock on the window it gives a warning chirp. If you knock hard it really goes off. The alarm also is triggered if doors or the hood is opened. If the alarm is triggered it vibrates my key fob if I am in range (1500 feet or so). The remote start and turbo timer features are great too.

The thief can still get in but they will make a lot of noise doing it and maybe run off before they go any further.

Good luck. Too bad about your troubles.

Any of the alarm systems made by http://www.directed.com would be my suggestion if you were looking to go that route. Of the brands offered my preference would be for the Clifford.

Re: Theft Protection - 2nd break in!!

Man that really sucks. I've got a Viper 791XV alarm with remote start and turbo timer installed on my truck. The shock sensor doesn't work as well as I thought it would but I was parked down town one night for a wedding and somebody must have got curious about what was in the bed of my truck. When they opened my roll n lock which wasn't locked!!! the warning chirp went off.

Overall I am happy with it and for $180 online it's reasonably priced.

Re: Theft Protection - 2nd break in!!

My truck got hit last week while I was in the gym. Ofcourse the classic screwdriver in the key hole. I have the Viper 5900SST in my truck. Luckily I had the key fob on me and it started going nuts so I bolted for my truck. I wasn't able to catch the guy cause he had his truck parked right next to mine and when we saw my running he jumped in his truck and took off. Sorry piece of ****. I didn't think he got in but one of my credit cards came up missing so I guess he did. Needless to say, I don't think he will break in again knowing that when that alarm goes off I am coming for him. All I know is if I see his truck again, he will regret messing with mine.

Re: Theft Protection - 2nd break in!!

Sorry to say it, but if they want your truck, an alarm will not do any good... for the avg thief it may move him to another truck. A friend of mine recently had his stolen. They simply looked under the dash, found the alarm brain and unplugged it. No more sound. All this was caught on video from the parking lot. They were very fast, from door open until drive away was about 30 secs. The get away car was also stolen, so no suspect.

Re: Theft Protection - 2nd break in!!

I have the Viper on mine and have enjoyed it. Like sergeantnic said my shock sensor it not real sensitive, but overall it is a pretty good kit. Once I mount my air horns I have thought about running the alarm to those guys. Make a lot of noise for a bit. Maybe enough to scare someone off.

Wish this was legal, until I had too many adult beverages and set it off myself...

Re: Theft Protection - 2nd break in!!

you could run a set of remote jump ports off the battery down near the front bumper, where you could apply power ...I have seen them on bmws when they play hide the battery.

Re: Theft Protection - 2nd break in!!

I will be getting a good alarm, Jimmy Jammers and anything else that may stop a thief. My truck was stolen last week and recovered the same day but with lots of damage. See the link below with pic's. So far, they have estimated the damages/ repair costs at $7500.
