trashed tailgate

I unfortunately trashed my tailgate this past weekend. I need to replace it. My wife asked if I can get an 08 tailgate with a step and put it in. So the question is will an 08 tailgate fit my truck? What do I need to adapt it to the truck? Anyone do this? Do the lines of the truck look OK? Any pictures? Also any good sources for tailgates?

According to what I have read, you can do it but the hinges are slightly different and need to be either modified or replaced (don't remember which)..

The body lines should match up perfectly..

The tailgate fits, but as I recall you will need one of the hinge brackets to help give an assist when raising it. Someone ought to chime in soon with the full story.

I read somewhere and saved the part number Part # 4L3Z83430B39AA for the hinge. Which would retain the lift assist feature.

I also remember that the latch stubs may need to be adjusted to get the gate flush. It's something i've been wanting too do, but haven't gotten there yet.
