Where to connect power wire for sat radio (hardwire)

Hey guys,

I got Sirius for X-mas and ran the antenae, made a custom mounting bracket and I'm all set to go 'cept for the power wire.

It comes with the power port plug but I want to hardwire it. It apparently is not capable of turning on and off with the radio so I just need to find a permanent power wire that's easy to get to.

Any help will be appreciated.

Dave

Re: Where to connect power wire for sat radio (hardwire)

check www.xmfan.com. I purchased this adapter http://www.xmfanstore.com/showproduct.php?id=hardwire

they have them for different radios based on the voltage required. I wired mine into the wires behind the cigarette lighter. clean install easy to do as well. the adapter is fool proof and comes with two easy clip splicers to splice into the wire. I am sure there are some of these adapters that will work for sirius as well.

Hey Dave,
I just noticed that you have the exact same truck that I have. I also replaced the stock speakers 5x7, but I put in some infinity's. And I have the same JL 10" in a box that I built out of MDF. Enjoy your tunes!!

Regards,

Re: Where to connect power wire for sat radio (hardwire)

Santa brought me a Sirius radio also. I connected mine to the red wire going into the back of the radio. Now it turns on and off with the key. If you have a multimeter just get under the dash and start looking for wires that work. I found a few that work with the ignition, but didn't work in accesory. I just went with the one that I knew would work.

Thanks.

One more thing, at risk of sounding....ummm....dumb, there are 2 wires going to the power port, 1 black, 1 black w/white tracer. Do I connect one of them to the red wire and the other to a ground?? Which is which??

Thanks,
Dave

Re: Where to connect power wire for sat radio (hardwire)

Your right. I just used the same chassis ground that my gauges use. I cut the lighter plug off and the all black wire goes to ground and the one with the white stripe will go to a pos. wire that you choose. I was hoping to not have to remove my head unit, but after searching and searching it was easiest to just pull the stereo and use the wire that I knew would work. I've been happy with it so far, but I do wish I could hardwire into the radio instead of using the FM modulator.

Re: Where to connect power wire for sat radio (hardwire)

I used a PIE adapter to run my Sirius radio through my OEM stereo. It works great.
