Still looking for that perfect tire! I have about 114k miles on my truck now and this will be my 4th set of tires. Chucked the stock 235's before they were worn for BFG 285's, d-rated. Was pleased with the mileage but not pleased with the out of balance all the time. Then went to Goodyear Silent Armor, also 285 d-rated. They are on there now and getting pretty worn. Been fairly pleased with those too, but not happy with the mileage.
Next set will be e-rated and I want to stay with the 285's. I do far more towing than off-roading and use the truck as a daily driver too. I was going to go with the BFG 285, since they are available in e[rated. But I can't stomach all the balance issues. Want something quiet and that'll track well. I found this tire mentioned by some folks at rv.net and think it'd suit me perfectly. Good reviews out there too. I am especially interested in good rain performance and these have the big channels to get rid of water quickly. Nitto Dura Grapplers:
Anyway, just looking for opinions and whether there are other options that are more "street" than "off-road". Any opinions on the Michelins? I know they are expensive.....

for towinn my tt i like the 265s the best. keeps the motor in the right rpms. and best mpgs. but there is no subistute for the 315s in the winter, i just put them back on, summer comes so do the 265s.

Thanks fellas. I agree that I "should" go with 265's, agree they would tow better. But the 285's fill it out just that little much that it doesn't look funny with my mini-spring pack up front. I'll see about those Michelins....

Michellin LTX m/s 285/75/16 'D' rated. Why 'E', these are 3305lbs per tire? I've been looking at these for a while, but haven't settled on the size yet. They have low rolling resistance, track straight, and are relatively quiet. On sale now at tire rack.com I think..please let us know what you get and how you like it. These decisions cost $$ and it's nice to get feedback.

Will I have have any problems going up to the 265/85/16Es on my truck? I do a moderate amount of towing. I'm worried about rubbing in the front, and possibly rears.

My Sierra Blanca is a '99.5 PSD CrewCab hot-rod Towing Machine! BTS tranny; TurboRamAir intake and 4" stainless turbo-back exhaust; DP-Tuner tunes flashed into an Edge Evolution tuner; ISSPRO EV gauges and TTM; AIC; SP-Diesel exhaust brake and torque converter controller. I special-ordered it new and plan to drive it until it quits.
I got the Nitto Dura Grapplers this morning. Cost was $860, mounted and balanced at my local shop.
Don't know what I can say but only to compare them to my previous tires, as this is my 4th set. My previous 2 sets of 285's were "d" rated and these are "e", with a max load of 3750# per tire.
First impression: QUIET! Not just the "new tire" quiet, these are appreciably quieter than my past all-terrain tires. Since I have only about 30 miles on them, I'll reserve judgement on handling, tracking, etc. I think they still have that new tire squishy feeling, although not as pronounced as my previous tires, especially the BFG's. They seem to track better and noticed a bit stiffer when going around long bends.
I hope they last well because I am pleased as punch! I'll post a couple photos tomorrow. I'll follow up after a couple thousand miles for a better review. Can't wait to try them in the rain, I'm expecting great things. I had a bit of a hydroplane scare a couple weeks ago, was my incentive for new tires that will perform well in the rain.
Oh, Blackout, to answer your question, "why 'e'"? Well, not so much for capacity, my d's have been fine in that regard. I wanted to go with "e" rated for a bit stiffer ride....side to side stiffness. I was disappointed with the "d's" in that regard, especially towing. Felt sloppy back there at times. My initial impression is that I am not suffering a harsher ride with these, as they are more for the street than my previous tires. Does that make sense?

I am running the cooper discoverer ATRs. Im pretty happy with them. Of course the last set of tires I had were interco trxus MTs so just about anything is better for all around use. Take a look at the coopers, I would buy them again

I'm running Coopers as well, 285 ATR in front and AT on rear. I am happy with them as well except I notice a bit of wandering a low speeds and they could be quieter. One other thing I notice is a lot of surface cracking by the bead. Although they have plenty of tread left, they may be replaced soon because of this. Should the cracks concern me?

i have a X do i need E rated rubber i had peirell 265 and loved them then got 285 BFG at and they are all most gone with only 35000 on them i am going back to peirrll next time
