1999 F250 cruise and t/c lockup issues.

Early 1999 F250 7.3L. Cruise control lights are on but it wont turn on. no codes on my programmer. Talked to a Ford tech about t/c not locking and he asked if the cruise worked. It quit working before i put a new 4R100 in and the t/c was working after that but one day i manually downshifted and it doesent lock when i downshift now. Accelerating it works fine and decelleration aswell. When i hit overdrive off the truck coasts. pull it into second and it will coast then gradually grab. pull to first and its normal. any ideas? Ford could diagnose it and if its internal its warranty. when overdrive is off i can put it to the floor and it dosent lock and if i step on the brakes it dosent do anything either. Communication error or internal issue?

The one thing that I can think of that could cause both problems is the brake light circuit. If something is wrong there the cruise won't engage and the lockup will not work correctly.

will a brake circut issue affect the lights? both back lights and 3rd brake light work on my truck. I find it funny that the cruise quit awhile ago and the t/c worked on the new tranny for prolly 500kms +/- and then goofed up.

If i pull the lever into 2nd at about 70km/hr, the truck should rev right up to 2500+/- rpm and hold back. i even flip my exhaust brake on on the big hills and you can feel the engine grab the wheels and rev up then let go all in about 3-4 seconds. it will do that for about 15 seconds then stop. tranny dosent seem to heat up, no codes, and once its in OD everything is fine again. guess next step it a dealer computer...

Your coast clutch is toast. It will need a rebuild to fix it.
