Thumbs up 2003 F250 6.0L Simple Oil Question

Going to be doing a oil change on my 2003 F250 6.0 with 173,000 miles on it, I know the book says to use Motorcraft oil's but I just want an opinion from others what you guys run? Mobil 1? Vavoline? Rotella? I live in South FL so it gets pretty hot, cold at times but not lower than 45 for the most part only during winter.

The answer is yes. Actually I use Motorcraft, but many others here use Rotella. As long as it meets specs they're all good. I just use Motorcraft because that's what Ford recommends.

Take your pick, most any oil meeting the API service grade of CJ-4, and with the correct viscosity range, will serve you well.

I can tell a difference with my 7.3 at start-up if I use 5W-40 synthetic. It's thinner than 15W-40 when cold, and feeds the injectors slightly better until it reaches operating temperature.

Being that I don't really live in a cold climate except for a few months out of the year mainly at night should I still put in 5w40 or should I use 15w40??

If it was me I'd use any good 15w40 since you aren't in a cold climate. I am in a cold climate and use 15w40 in the summer and 10w30 in the winter. Many believe in a synthetic but since I change twice a year I can't justify the extra cost. TJMO

In FLA I would use Rotella T 15/ 40
This year in Wyoming I changed to Rotella T 6 - 40 synthetic ...at - 5 degrees without being plugged in the truck starts up and just purrs from the start. With 15/40 at that temp. it would lope and rock for a min. before the oil thinned out.

And don't use cheap aftermarket filters, they don't meet specs. There are YouTube videos out there that show how bad they can be.
