Greetings all! Has anyone ever run into the following?
Came home from work and found the headlights on and a electrical/plastic burning oder in the cab.
-Truck had been parked and not driven for 3 days.
-Keys were not in the ignition and light switch was in the off position.
-I disconnected the batteries until time allowed for me to work on it.
-Pushed the truck into the shop were it has sat for the last 2 months.
Fast forward to the present and this is what I have done.
-Reconnected batteries and symptoms are still present. (any moisture should have dried by now)
-Pulled the fuse panel out and disconnected all bulkheads.
-No blown fuses
-Found a single terminal in one bulkhead that has been getting extremely hot. This terminal goes to a white wire w/ purple trace.
-This same wire goes thru the firewall to a relay block in the engine compartment. It's located just above the driver side wheel well.
-I've replaced the relay with an OEM relay.
-Problem still occurs.
-Ford dealer indicated this is the A/C clutch relay.
-I've removed the 10amp fuse (blackened spade terminals but not blown) for the respective A/C Clutch relay and headlights are now off w/ the light switch in the off position.
-If I turn the lights on and select low beam I have a faint humming sound originating somewhere close to the firewall.
-Change to high beam and the humming sound disappears.
-No prior problems with A/C compressor. Everything had been working fine.
Do I have one of those crazy wiring harness shorts which requires opening up the wire loom and looking for a short?
I normally can find what I need hear and you guys are always a great help. Recently became a premium member since you all have saved me much time, headache, and money.
I can post pics if needed but hopefully I have been descriptive enough to invoke the thought process.
Thanks in advance,
-Daniel
