Air Horns

Don't know if this is the correct forum but I'm looking for an air horn package loud enough to wake Moses!! I don't want authentic train horns that are gonna cost me $900.00. Maybe $300-375 for everything. I want to mount them up front underneath safe from snow and debris. Any suggestions?

John

Re: Air Horns

The kit in the above link will sound nice, but it won't be that far loud. That kit doesn't specify if it has a compressor of any sort. If not, that's a HIGH price for just a pair of Hadley air horns. My Grovers ran me $45 each.

If you plan to run JUST airhorns, then that will work, but might not be loud enough for what your looking for.

I'm currently running dual Grover 1609 and they are LOUD. Now, I'm running at 145 PSI and feeding the horns with 3/8" tubing. Also I have 5 gallon air supply too. A budget of 400-600 would give you a very nice kit and you'd also have on-board air if you ever need it.

Re: Air Horns

The Hadley Bulley setup is very loud. I believe that setup comes with a small compressor and 1/2 gallon tank. That combo is good for about 5 seconds of horn. I am still using those trumpets, but have a larger compressor and 4 gallon tank. Mike.

The more air you have, the longer you can use stuff like the horns, or air tools before the compressor kicks on, however, the longer it will take for the compressor to refill.

If you have a 33% duty cycle compressor (such as the cheaper Viairs) you would be better off with a single 2 or 3 gallon tank.

If you have a YORK engine driven compressor, then I would stuff as much air tank as possible under the truck. 10 gallons of 145psi air would be a NICE reserve capacity. and a YORK would refill it VERY fast.

If you have a 100% duty cycle Viair, then 5 gallons would be fine for continuous use.

Re: Air Horns

With 5 Gallons, you'll be able to blow her till the cows come home. As for 5 vs 10, size become and issue. I have two 5 gallon tanks, one on each framerail. Check out some tank sizes at TruckSpring.
