All advice/opinions are welcomed please

Well I am looking at getting my first diesel truck and wanted to get your guys opinion on a truck I found. I've been on here for a while reading up on all the diesel knowledge that I can get my hands on. To give you a little on my background to let you know where I'm coming from I am a 20 yr old jr. in college that started my own landscaping business this past year and need something that I can count on to be a daily driver and a work horse. I found a 2000 F250 automatic with 84,000 miles on it. From the pictures it appears to be in good condition, the only thing that gets me worried is he has a whole list of performance parts done since March of this year:

4" turbo-back exhaust with stainless magnaflow 5" polished tip
AFE Stage 2 Air filter setup
TS Performance 6 position chip
3 ISSPRO GAUGES in A Pillar mount
Wicked wheel installed
Sonnax valve/tricumulator springs (not installed yet)

No heavy towing has been done with the truck other than pulling some ATV’s around is what I have been told. I had him pull the b-day off the transmission and it doesn't fall into the category of being one of the faulty ones. Wanting to make sure I make the right decision, I was hoping to get an opinion on what you guys would do if you came across a truck like this being in my situation. It is also out of state so I can't test drive it or look at it in person. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: All advice/opinions are welcomed please

I would NOT buy a used truck with chips or turbo mods. Do you think the mods were installed to take grandma to church??

Re: All advice/opinions are welcomed please

I don't agree with aussiekeeper.

All those mods are indications that the owner wanted to safely hot-rod the truck.

The miles are low, and the mods are all good, IMHO. Other than the mods, if it sounds like what you're looking for, then I would drive it, then if it ran good in the stock and "tow" settings on the chip, then I'd have no qualms in buying it. Especially if the owner has a logbook that shows when all maintenance items were done since new.

But don't commit to buying it until you drive it. You don't want to be buying a pig in a poke.

Re: All advice/opinions are welcomed please

I dont agree either- those are well thought out modifications.

I would be concerned if the owner was 21 and there was no gauges on the truck....

seems like a nice truck, drive it and good luck.

Re: All advice/opinions are welcomed please

Most times when owners mod their trucks they are taking pride in their truck. A lot of times these are well maintained. I would definitely not commit to anything until you have some time behind the wheel, you need to test drive that badboy.

Re: All advice/opinions are welcomed please

If you look closely at everyone's sig, you will see some type of combo of the mods that are listed on the truck your looking at. I have some form of everything too, except the tranny mod (sonnax/tricumulator) but that is one of the next mods on my list, to prolong the life of the tranny. With my $.02 out of the way, everyone else is right, drive it and make your decision. If something seems wrong, it probably is, but you can always come back here and ask the all knowing for some more advice Good luck, and welcome! Re: All advice/opinions are welcomed please

Sounds like a nice truck ! Can you document the mods were done recently? I would snatch it up (after a drive)! Its got better rods and low miles, I don't see anything to get all up in arms about ? My 99 had 94,000 on it when I got it and with in 10,000 miles I had added a lift, chip, intake, exhaust, and gauges, all the good stuff! I drove the hell out of that truck and traded it in on this one with 270,000 miles on it ! They still gave me $10,000 for it !

Re: All advice/opinions are welcomed please

I would not touch it unless I knew the guy. At that mileage, odds are your looking at a trans in the near future. It would be better to see that someone had good service records and not hot rod mods. Most of the people on the vette forums won't touch one with alot of mods for good reason. If your looking for a toy, then thats different, but you said dependable business vehicle. Just my 2 cents based on experience. Good luck and be patient.
