APC Projector Headlight Installation???

I bought the APC projector headlights to install in my '01 Excursion. I have a few questions...
I have a harness but no instructions for putting it in... does anyone have instructions for doing this?

The built in driving lights... how are they hooked up? How are they operated? I have a factory switch built into my in cab dash mounted headlight switch... I think it is for controlling the factory fog lights, which I do not have... can they be hooked into this switch? How do I do that?

Did you all use the 9005/9006 bulbs that come with the APC lights... or did you swap out with the 9007 bulbs that we normally use? Can I use 9007 bulbs and just eliminate using the harness that came with the lights?

Any thoughts regarding this by those that have done it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Brian

Re: APC Projector Headlight Installation???

The extra harness is for the FOGLIGHTS.

The headlights themselves should have an included ADAPTER that converts your SINGLE PLUG to a DUAL PLUG for the two seperate headlights in the APC housing.

As for the harness, its pretty easy to install. The wire with the fuse goes direct to the battery. One to ground, should be two sets of wires for the foglights themselves (hot and ground). Then you have a cable that goes into the cab. Inside, you tie one wire to ground, and teh other wire gets a KEYED HOT so that the fogs only come on with the engine running.

Re: APC Projector Headlight Installation???

So... I am assuming that the factory harness plugs in directly to the blue colored recepticles.(1 on each light)
Then I suppose that if I can find the wires that go to my rotary light switch on my dash that I could cut and adapt the harness that I got with the lights to operate the driving light bulbs in the APC's?
I figure that the less additional wiring that I have would mean less possible problems down the road! Now all I have to do is find and identify those wires!

Thanks!

Re: APC Projector Headlight Installation???

The stock harness is under-rated for even our stock lights, let alone the additonal driving lights.

Seriously, you should replace the entire STOCK LIGHTING harness for an aftermarket one with heavier duty wires, and directly wires to the batteries via relays. Then just use the headlight switch as a TRIGGER instead of as a powersource.

Do not wire the driving lights into the stock harness. Use the supplied aftermarket harness that came with the lights.

You can plug into the blue adapters for now, but I really recommend installing a headlight upgrade harness.
