Attempted theft of my '04 - is the ignition key chipped?
I'm pretty sure the answer is obvious - but with technology these days maybe the chip really is that small that I can't see it in my key.
Some lowlife tried to steal my truck last night. I lock my doors every single night, and I also have the Ford Gold command-start with the alarm. Obviously, I must have simply forgotten to lock and arm my truck when I got home because someone had been through my console, glove compartment, and had knocked off my ingition in an attempt to steal the truck.
Now my question is: if he would have succeeded (he didn't complete the job - I think the neighbors dog scared him off) would he have still been able to start it without the key or is there a chip built-in that is required for the truck to start?

Re: Attempted theft of my '04 - is the ignition key chipped?
Is there a thief light that flashes on the dash, no pun intended, if so you have the PATS anti thief system. The key is also bigger than the normal Ford key. Some of the Lariats have the PATS system. Sorry to hear about the truck, stuff like this pisses me off.

It may be a regional thing. I am not sure other wise. Ford does things like this at times.

Buy that dog a big bag of "pig ears". Dogs love 'em. By tomorrow night every dog in the neighborhood will be watching your truck.

Re: Attempted theft of my '04 - is the ignition key chipped?
According to the dealership, the PATS system is only an option when you first order the truck. It uses a different sub-harness and can only be installed from the factory...
I found out the hard way how easy it is to steal one of our trucks...!
I installed a decent alarm system the second time around (It was recovered in one piece) and use the club with it at all times...

Sorry, but there is NO chip in the truck keys. The dog did his job. Get a BIG MEAN DOG.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, since you aren't allowed much for firearms up there anymore, get a BIG MEAN and HUNGRY dog..... Wonder if next they'll ask you to register BIG MEAN and HUNGRY dogs.. LOL......
I've seen a couple of posts from owners in Canada who've had their trucks stolen. Is this crime rampant up there? Might be wise to have a superdooper aftermarket alarm system installed along with a fuel cutoff switch.
I know it's inconvenient now, but fixing the ignition switch is sure easier/cheaper than replacing a stolen truck. Best to you...

Most of the Kids around here do not want to JOY ride an 8,000 lb truck. They would car-jack a car from an old lady then try a 6 foot 250lb man for his truck. go figure

Re: Attempted theft of my '04 - is the ignition key chipped?
I would have liked a PATS setup on mine but have never seen nor heard of a Super Duty P/U with the system. It always boggled my mind how a $15,000 Focus comes standard with it but a $50,000 SD isn't even available with one?
When do you get to choose the PATS system on a SD. Is it a fleet option? If any SD had that setup you'd think at least a King Ranch or Harley would have it. I, personally, have never seen one in any of these. Not sniping, just looking for education.

Re: Attempted theft of my '04 - is the ignition key chipped?
Yeah, I gave Bruno next door a couple extra treats across the fence yesterday. It's just lucky that he had to go outside to do his business at that particular time. There's a motion-sensored floodlight at their back door that lights up when the dog goes in the yard. That probably helped scare the perpetrator(s) off too.
My two hounds (a yellow labrador retriever and a black labrador retriever/shepherd cross) would have done the job too but they were soundly asleep beside my bed.
I think the moral of this story is to always ensure that my doors are locked, thereby setting the alarm. I made it too easy for him/them Saturday night.
It is kinda cool being able to start my truck with a screwdriver though.

I am truely amazed at how your "rights" got swept out from under you guys up there. They're trying hard down here to strip us but we're fighting the good fight. I've heard that the whole "registration" program isn't going as planned up there...

Re: Attempted theft of my '04 - is the ignition key chipped?
Don't really need a gun to protect myself because very few criminals use them here. Even most armed robberies are committed with a bat, a screwdriver or a good ol' knife and victims usually only get hurt if they resist. I guess the lack of guns makes for less to get into the criminals hands. Gee, maybe our system does work afterall.
Plus the damage or theft of my vehicle, although frustrating, doesn't warrant gunfire in my opinion. It's a possession that can be replaced. Now if someone got violent with a good friend or family member and I came upon them, the story would be different.
But it sure is nice to get around anywhere I feel like without the fear of getting shot. Now don't get me wrong - I have hunted in the past and likely will again someday. Firearms have their purpose.
And as for our country's "registered gun program", let's just say it's another fine example of how our government screws up every program they initiate without considering how many billions of taxpayers dollars they'll waste.

Carefull boys, I'm no Mod and as much as I'm tempted to join into the conversation I smell a shutdown a-brewin'. Hate to see a good thread get shut down. Being a busy-body tonight, my apologies.
Still curious about the PATS option on the Super Duty. As far as I know the 05's don't even have them.
