Re: Attempted theft of my '04 - is the ignition key chipped?
Yep safe old Canada. Went for a walk up there in a town where some guy must have won a pig and they named the town for the event.
Anyway walking down street and 3 members of our group a block ahead. Some nice local youth show up with bats/chain/knife to offer directions for a price........ We caught up and convinced them that home with mamma is the place to be.
I feel much safer on the MN side myself. Often don't even carry a gun. Out all hours/areas.

What is the fear of posting what you think or need to ask on this forum? I am new here but have serverl thousand posts online and am a supporting vendor of a Lightning site. I have never seen a group so scared of saying 'EGR disable' or protect property with 'deadly force'. Did I miss something in the rules?
As for the question my 01 Lightning had a chip key and so does my 04 Harley F250. The key is FAT and you can see a small black square from the back. Some autostart installers pry this key out and glue it under the dash so it will remote start without the key present. If you have a thin key then there is no PATS chip.

Thanks Lightningfast01. So it was an available option on the higher-end model F-250/350. I was just curious. I had assumed that mine would have it as well but have since confirmed that it does not. I guess when I leave my key in the house and come out to start my truck with a screwdriver - it means I don't have a PATS chip.
Anyway it's going in to be repaired tomorrow. I also bought a club, just as an additional visual deterrent. And......I ALWAYS make sure to lock the doors and activate the alarm now. I think this will help.

Re: Attempted theft of my '04 - is the ignition key chipped?
glad to hear they didnt get your truck.
stealin' a man's truck should be a hangin' offense.
all this talk lately about getting ripped off has got me
considering installing an alarm or something. My dog just died
so i am not ready to replace him yet(german shepard)
i think i will start with one of those cyclops relay things.
i hate the chirp and false alarms from most systems.
i like the idea of fuel cut-off. i would think they would get the truck started drive a block down the road and hopefully it would die in the middle of a busy intersection.
i keep alot of tools etc so all this talk is getting me nervous and i live in extremely safe neighborhood.but that's where the scum likes to shop.....right?

Re: Attempted theft of my '04 - is the ignition key chipped?
Sorry to hear about your Sheperd mine is about 12 now and limping around like an old man. I am buying an Xtended cab so I can park in my garage. Two way paging alarms are the best. Thieving is at an all time high it seems. Keeping stuff out of sight is a good precaution. I am thinking of a Malinous (sp?) breed next. They are longer living than a Sheperd and look the same.
Re: Attempted theft of my '04 - is the ignition key chipped?
ill look into the two way paging.
but that would reguire a beeper or something...right?
i already have a cellphone and fire dept pager...i dont want to look like batman......
the dog almost made his 16th birthday....not bad for 85lb dog.
he had 2 knee surgeries at over a thousand a pop. when he went they tried surgery on his stomach and that did not work. that whole thing was about 4 grand. worth every penny. will miss that old rat dog forever.
so with all that money out of pocket..i cant afford some lowlife scum helping himself to my truck or whats in it. and you arent always around to shoot at them either.
time for some precautions.

Re: Attempted theft of my '04 - is the ignition key chipped?
The SD Harleys have the fat chipped key, but there is no pats system on the truck. It is my guess that ford had a lot of the keys made and are just using up some of the surplus they had left over from the 150's. On the plus side, they look kewl.

If there is no pats system, and the key is just the ornamental pats key (the one with the blue oval), why would they not be able to replace the key with a regular one?

Re: Attempted theft of my '04 - is the ignition key chipped?
I installed a Cyclops Anti Theft relay in mine. The truck will not start without the pushbutton key fob or the other activator that plugs into the 12v outlet.
This relay replaces the injector relay in the fuse panel. With this no one will drive it away. If someone wants it bad enough they could probably hoist it on a flatbed, at least they won't just drive it away.

What Ed sez...Fer Shur. I have the Cyclops in mine. Like Ed sez: they can haul it off but they sure WON'T Drive it off.
Was in at the edges of "The Hood" in L.A. this past weekend. Felt a bit better knowing I had what it took to start my truck....(the IDM control)... in my pocket. Nothing is Fail Safe, but the Cyclops theory is a step or two toward it. 5 minute install.

Re: Attempted theft of my '04 - is the ignition key chipped?
What about GPS technology to track the truck's location if someone does happen to succeed in stealing it? A local alarm company offers this service and I believe they charge a montly fee for it. Anyone have experience with this?
Once I'm done modding my truck with thousands of dollars in aftermarket parts it will be a much more desirable target for thieves. If I can find the truck soon after it has been stolen I might get to it before they part it out. Our State-run vehicle insurance here will not reimburse for aftermarket parts such as wheels and tires, or any of the truck's contents. So finding it fast could save me a lot of money and trouble.

As long as the rest of the key is the same you can use it. Ford has so many keys now it's difficult to keep up with them.
Any vehicles with the PATS system will have a thief light on the dash or a red LED on top of the dash on the newer ones.

I feel your pain.
I've been on SVTPerformance for quite a while (Same screen name, 03' modded Cobra).
Here they tend to drive home the "no guns, sex or politics" message. I may not always agree with it but I don't want to see a thread I'm interested in get canned either. It's a different setup. more legend than reality. There's a few EGR threads are active right now.
Long story short: Just trying to be a good boy, that's all. Not trying to preach.
