Highway Prisoner, I am always impressed when I see how many miles you have logged. Do you post to this board from the driver's seat of your PSD? Be safe out there!

I had to think about this and I thought, well I prefer my choice of Schaeffer 9000 full synthetic . But then I had to remember that I bought the maintenance program which will pay for all maintenance..meaning oil changes by ford at 5000 intervals. Oh well, such is life.

Ya, and sometimes they have coupons for $15 off a case. That makes it about $8/gal.

I usually use my desktop, but just purchased a new laptop today. I am trying to back off running so much. I hope to let the old girl sit out most of the winter in a warm garage.

What about consideration of the oil FILTER ? They vary greatly in quality and price. Like, from $10 to almost $30 retail. I get the best at almost 1/2 off pricing online. Don't tell me that doesn't affect the OCI !!!

Also ,the question regarding synthetic being worth the price: Do you run it in a cold winter climate ? Do you require that it start in sub-zero weather, and run well ? If so, either use dino oil with winter ratings ( now where can you find that ? ) or use something like Rotella T synthetic, @ $20/ gallon, from Autozone...Then you can always switch back to cheaper dino at your first spring oil change. What think you, gentlemen ?

I have always run synthetic year round. The synthetic definately helps in cold weather. Schaeffers is my fist choice, but Rotella, and Mobil Delvac1 are easy to find. I run a fs2500 by pass filtration to make the Synthetic more cost effective, and better engine protection. I run a lot of miles, so my application is different than many PSD owners. The synthetic makes sense for winter operation, but you can go back to 15W40 for the warmer months.
