Braking shudder, dealer says normal

My 04 duelie crew f350 long wheelbase 4x4 shudders and trembles during moderate to hard braking. (Anything heavier than slow and gradual braking)

It is very different from what I would call normal ABS pulse, It is more of a vibration and shake, the interior components rattle noisily during this (cup holder, etc) It is quite annoying. The dealer says they all do this, it is an F350 characteristic. I am thinking it may be an out of round rotor or caliper issue or something, but there is no pulling to either side, it brakes straight ahead, but almost feels like the back and front aren't synced or someting.

My 99 F250 crew Single rear wheel short wheelbase 2wd never did this. Has anyone else experienced this? Its coming up on 36K end of warranty, I bought it used as 24K and it has done this as long as I have had this. I am wondering if I should fight the dealer on this as a warranty issue, or if it is just something I haev to deal with.

Re: Braking shudder, dealer says normal

Mine does a similar thing. Only 6K miles. If it continues, will have rotors checked.

Re: Braking shudder, dealer says normal

That is a common issue that I would call normal, but by no means should be considered OK. The dealer should fix it, if not find another dealer.

[/ QUOTE ]B.S. The Dealer is full of it. With a dually, your discs are held in place with the hub spacers and not the lugnuts as are found in SRW vehicles so it is unlikely due to lugnut torque. It is most likely due to DTV (disc thickness variation) probably because the OEM disc brake pads are not abrasive enough to "true" the rotors under your braking conditions. This most often occurs with folks who do not race from light to light or use the brakes much driving on the highways. Read this thread and pay particular attention to FMTRVT's posts. Re: Braking shudder, dealer says normal

no vehicle in the world does this . the dealer is on drugs or something. what b.s.. my 350 does nothing but stop when i use the brakes. my early 99 350 didnt do it either. i would suspect warped rotors. does your brake pedal pulsate when you use the brakes?

I was just going to say that but I am glad you did first. Don't want to sound like a broken record parroting stuff on the forums. LOL.

Re: Braking shudder, dealer says normal

I'm going with the dealer is full of BS also. Mine was doing the same thing - dealer turned the rotors and replaced the pads under warranty.

Re: Braking shudder, dealer says normal

i did read the post. and it could be warped rotors or hard spots on them. no production brake system would be allowed to be produced if they vibrated. it is not normal. i have done many brake jobs on these disc brakes and turned many rotors. sometimes it takes very little warp to cause problems.

[/ QUOTE ]I think we all agree that dealer/service manager is full of BS in this case as vibration/pulsation is not normal.

Well whatever, the fix is the same, replace them or have them turned for $9. I turn them when I have warped rotors.
