Bumping Noise In Floorboard ??????

Need some help folks. when going over rough ground or hitting a bump on pavement I'm getting a bump in the floorboard under my feet. I've noticed the "torsion bar", I think which runs from the front axle back to two braces that run up to the floorboard have a rubber grommet where they are bolted together. These rubber grommets on my truck are both worn out. Is this what is causing the bumping and if so how do I replace them??

Re: Bumping Noise In Floorboard ??????

My early 99 at work has just started doing the same thing lately.
I suspect it is the swaybar end links as the rubber bushings are looking pretty bad. I will be tackling that any day now.

My '01 has been doing this as well. I too suspect the sway bar links, but haven't pulled them off yet.

Also check ball joints. Had thumping in floorboard, passenger side ball joints shot.

Re: Bumping Noise In Floorboard ??????

I'm in the same situation. I've replaced my end links, sway bar bushings and my ball joints are 18k miles old...and I still have the thump. I'll be pulling the sway bar off and driving it for a day and hopefully that will eliminate all of its related parts.

Re: Bumping Noise In Floorboard ??????

Mine has been clunking for a while now (front). The main sway bar mount bushings are worn. I bought new ones this morning at the dealer and total came to $28.
Will replace them when the weather gets warm (June).

Am I supposed to use grease in the new bushings?

Re: Bumping Noise In Floorboard ??????

OK, I'll goop on some grease when I install them. (The rubber bushings came dry in the package)

Same here. Dry in package. What if I do not grease them? Will they just squeak?

Re: Bumping Noise In Floorboard ??????

I'll bet they will squeak and eventually the rubber will dry out and begin to tear, crumble, or "smear" onto the sway bar.

Re: Bumping Noise In Floorboard ??????

I would bet the noise is coming from the stabilizer bar end links. For my 2002 they cost $100.oo and come as complete units..not just bushings. Make sure you torque them per specs and apply locktite if you want . JOHN

Re: Bumping Noise In Floorboard ??????

Any idea what the torque values are for the end links and the bushing bracket at the sway bar?
