Re: A/C coming out the defrost

Leak at the vacum lines for the front hubs. Mine did the same thing.

Re: A/C coming out the defrost

You may can fix it by cutting 1" off the lines at the wheels and plugging them back on. Give it a try.

Re: A/C coming out the defrost

Also check the fuse for the vacuum pump, #28 on the inside panel.

Re: A/C coming out the defrost

Something else to look and listen for. My fat footed brother for some reason stuck his foot under the dash on the pax side of the truck. He efforts were rewarded when he unplugged the vacumn lines that run under the dash. (early 99) Didn't say a thing and I didn't notice the change the air flow. Got in when it was hot outside and wanted to have some cool A/C blowing on my face and No Joy. While trouble shooting and being told of the hundreds of $$$ to replace the control head I noticed a hissing noise. I traced it down to the connection. Reconnected and my wallet screemed with delight! Give it a look, it's free.

Re: A/C coming out the defrost

There is no possibility of a blown fuse is there? I mean everything is working, just thought id throw it out there. It just defaults to the defrost on everything.

Re: A/C coming out the defrost

As Baybear has stated. Check fuse position #28 it is a 10 amp fuse.
On a truck I drive at work this happened. I replaced the vacuum pump easy to remove and replace and replaced #28 fuse and all is good.

Thats gotta be it-#28 is no good. I looked at it about 10 o'clock tonight thinking these trucks had the middle size fuses like my other truck.

If you have SOF, and I bet you do, I would put money on a vacuum leak in the front end. Hoses or "O" rings. I get mine replaced tomorrow. One of our company trucks has been working on defrost only and manual hubs for some time now.

Do your hubs actually lock in though? If your #28 fuse is OK, then you almost have to have a vacuum leak somewhere. Perhaps, as someone mentioned, under the dash?

Re: A/C coming out the defrost

Also, my back up lights stopped working about the same time the A/C deal happened.

Have you checked #28 fuse? Although you may have checked it and replaced it there is a chance the fuse has blown again. I replaced the vacuum pump when mine was doing the same thing last week and after the pump replacement it still did not work because I did not check the fuse first.Replaced pump and then replaced fuse and it worked good for a few days and then it stopped working again so I replaced the fuse again and it works again. The manual states that fuse #28 circuit controls the vacuum pump and back-up circuit which in my case on a F-450 stake body flat bed it has a back up beeper when transmission is put in reverse.
Replace #28 and then do some diagnosis and check if the vacuum pump is operating. Also check under the glove compartment on the passenger side floorboard and check if the vacuum lines are still attached. Maybe they got kicked loose.
