Hey all. I have been having some issues with my A/C compressor and it engaging or not. Let me try and describe. Had the system recharged by a shop this summer thinking that might be the problem when it would not engage. After that it seemed to work fine for a bit but then it started freezing up. The shop checked and said the charge was fine but that the A/C cycling switch was not working. Had them change it. That was this summer. I was then away for work for a few months and wife drove the truck regularly, but it was fall time and there was no need for A/C. Plus her trips were to work about 18-20 miles. So good chance she would not have noticed anything unusual.
Last week drove about 300 miles, in snow and about 20 degree weather, and noticed I would get the same freeze up, air would quit blowing on defrost. Stopped and checked and the lines were frozen up. Saw the compressor was engaged. Switch to vent and compressor would go off, I would then start to get air again. Did this over and over for the whole trip.
I started checking it periodically over the last week and now I get no compressor engagement. None at all, so I am getting some fogging when on defrost. it is cold, below freezing, so I don't think it would engage on A/C (I have tried that).
So asking for any ideas as to what may be causing this?
