A/C compressor not engaging

While driving on a cold rainy day I noticed my windows starting to fog up even though the defrost was on. As I suspected my A/C clutch is not engaging.

I read the manual, but can't find a fuse location for the A/C. Surely it is on a fuse? Anyone know which one? Assuming it is not as simple as a fuse where do I look next. The clutch is not locked up, and it was working fine before. Just all of the sudden quitting. The pressure in the system seems to be normal according to one of the cheap freon refill gauges, although the compressor was not running when I checked it.

Any help is appreciated.

There is a pressure switch that cuts off the compressor when freon level is low to prevent damaging it. Could be low freon, bad switch, or ? If you understand circuitry and have a twelve-volt test light, you can at least check if voltage is reaching the pressure switch. If so, then the switch may be bad or the charge too low due to a leak.

Can you tell me where the switch is located?
Also is the A/C on a fuse or relay?
Thanks.

OK, I took out the shim behind the clutch with no noticeable difference. The clutch will engage about once a minute for just about five to ten seconds, then dissengage. Is that a sign of a particular issue?

I had a similar problem and it turned out that the female terminals inside the plug on the pressure switch were corroded. I replaced the whole harness from Ford for under $30.
Hope that helps.
