I just took the entire driveshaft out and changed my u joints right away as well, it easier to work on a work bench then fighting under the truck to get stuff into place.

I dropped the driveshaft yesterday. All of the u-joints are tight and smooth moving - the carrier bearing feels good as well. It turns around the driveshaft smoothly with no lateral movement.

While it was out, I greased the slip spline and got rid of the thud when taking off from a stop.

One thing fixed, but the rattle is still there...

Its been a good weekend. I finished the gauge install, and then went for round five to try to find the source of the rattle.

While under there I found a black widow spider (or she found me) as she came after me. I had seen webs, but it was a bigger spider than I expected.

After killing her, I went to find the rattle.

I finally found it. It was the brackets holding the air bags to the rear springs. Why I didn't find the source earlier was because the bolts were tight. What they did was install the air bags over the stock overload springs. Then they inserted a bracket under the overload and then secured it with brackets under the main leafs. The brackets between the main leafs and the overloads could move just enough to rattle.

Well I feel better and the truck is nice and quiet.

Thanks for all the help.

My rattle only happens between 100 KPH and 110 KPH - or a large bump - it seems like it comes from the passenger side of the cab at the rear too. Looks like an hour or two on the creeper for me - trouble is - I get dizzy when I do that - almost to the point of upchucking. ANyway - I at least I now know where to look !!!

I had the same problem. It would rattle when I would go over a hump. I was using a hammer to tap thing to see if I could find the rattle. I hit the leaf spring with a hammer and my lower leaf was broken and half of it fell out. Doing a visual I could not see any break. It was unloading when I went over a hump and would make the sound. Well off the the salvage yard tomorrow.
