Re: Castrol GTX Diesel Oil ???????????

When I read the web site closer, it looks like this oil is not suited for the PSD. Mainly 4 cycle engines. I think the tection is the choice from Castrol.

Re: Castrol GTX Diesel Oil ???????????

The Powerstroke and all modern diesels are 4-strokes. It is rated API CI-4 so it will work fine in the Powerstroke.

Re: Castrol GTX Diesel Oil ???????????

Used it in my 99 and now in my 01, about 150,000 miles between the two of them. Also used it in 3 non-turbo IDI and one Powerstroke ambulance, found it helped reduce oil consumption on higher mileage engines, and seemed to smooth the idle a tad on the Powerstroke.

Re: Castrol GTX Diesel Oil ???????????

I may have to try to find it and give it a shot. I have used Castrol GTX in my cars for years...I used to use it in my dirt bikes,,,figure if it was good enough for a two stroke air cooled engine...it would be fine in my cars! Used it in an 84 Honda Civic and when I got rid of it with 186k miles on it. THEN the guy I sold it to put another 70k on it!
Before he sold it! (Not sure if he continued using the GTX or not!)
Anyway I have always had faith in it...so I would definately give it a shot in my truck!

Re: Castrol GTX Diesel Oil ???????????

I have used the Castrol RX SUPER DIESEL oil for 87,000 Km with no problem .This was what Castrol Tec's in Australia recommended and the Castrol products come out of the business stock.
A Castrol Fan, have used it for 45 Years on the Speedway as well as road use. No recorded failures.

Ron

I see your in a 7.3 but for 6.0 CI-4+ is reccomended, but they say CI-4 is ok. Doesnt the CI-4+ rating have a anti foaming agent or something

Re: Castrol GTX Diesel Oil ???????????

I don't know about the GTX but I just used the Tection for my first oil change in my 06. I got it on sale (buy 2gal get 1 free) from Autozone last month. I haven't noticed any differance in sound or performance. I previously used Rotella in my 04 and probably will most of the time with my 06 as well since I can get it cheaper then the regular price of the Tection.

Re: Castrol GTX Diesel Oil ???????????

I used it in my 6.5 and it would use 1 quart every 800 miles. Went back to Rotella and every 5,000 it might be down 1/2 quart. Maybe I didn't use it long enough to give it a good chance. I use the GTX in all of my gas engines, but Rotella in the diesels.
