Climate Control and Vent Issues in 2002 SD

The mechanism that controls the vents and climate control choices has become very sluggish on my 2002 F-250. It seems to default to defrost and when I switch to vent or bi-level air, it takes several seconds to make the change. The response used to be instantaneous. Since the truck is no longer under warranty, I was wondering what is involved in making repairs. I am assuming it requires pulling the dash, which I am reluctant to do. Thanks.

Probably a weak vacuum pump or maybe a vac leak. Ck the hose
under the right side of the dash. Easily kicked loose or off.
