Cruise Control Switch Recall extended

Cruise control switch recall extended to Diesels according to this news article.
Ford switch recall expanded by 4.5 million vehicles - Yahoo! News

It mentions that Ford had not had any reports of fire from this problem, but I recall someone posting here on TDS about their truck burning up.

Unhappy another recall....

Besides the CPS looks like we will have to go to Ford dealers to get a cruise control switch fixed.

Anybody knew about this?

How much disassembly of the colum will replacing that switch require, I am wondering if it would be a good opportunity to replace the harness that is known to chafe.

I know many of these switches are under the hood, but i had the switch under my dash go bad. i ended up by passing the part where the clutch auto disengages the cc. Is this the same part?

It looks like the fix is going to be

"Ford is notifying customers and instructing them to take vehicles to dealers for a complimentary installation of a fused wiring harness that will eliminate the risk of fires, the NHTSA said."

Sounds like some fix.... not.

CNN said this will start on Oct. 26. I guess they need time to ship harnesses Sounds like fuseable link harness so if part does fail it just blows fuse instead of burning truck to ground. So keep that in mind if fuse blows they still need to replace the troubled CC switch for free if it does fail, I would think ?

Stopped by my Dealer today with my '97 F350 PSD and they looked at the part and then placed a new fused harness between the plug and the existing cable that was plugged onto the switch. Took all of 4 minutes to do.

Got to go back with my '02 F350 PSD for them to check that one.

So why not just replace the switch in question?

Why solve the problem when you can just put a band-aid on it?

Does any one have any idea as to the cost of the part in question?

This Band-Aid way of life is sick....

Fix it right the first time and enjoy life more.
