DOOR LOCK PROB

HELP I have a 2000 Excursion that for 2 yr the front doorlocks only work manualy and now the system keeps blowing the fuse under the hood. Nothing has changed but the rear door locks feel hard to pull or push. Time to fix for the wife since I got a new truck, any help would be cheaper than the dealer. thanks

Re: DOOR LOCK PROB

DO a search on door lock actuators. Its pretty common for the 99-2002 models to start having the power actuators fail. You can get oem for about $45 to 55 each, or get some universal fit for about half that. Problem with the universal ones is that you'll have to modify the mounting bracket. There are also instructions buried somewhere if you want to take yours apart and recondition them.
I took the drivers side panel loose, but I could not figure out how to disengage the actuator from the wire harness. I ended up paying a local body shop $35 to pull out the old one, replace it with the one I provided, and button everything all up. Its been fine now for 1 1/2 years.

Re: DOOR LOCK PROB

I just replaced the rear passenger actuator. I bought mine from the the dealer, but next time I will buy from Ebay ... Actuator on Ebay. Appears to be OEM.

It took me a couple of hours to remove it and only ten minutes to pop the new one in.

All you need to do is remove the door panel and then remove the door handle. Once the door handle is out you can remove the actuator. This was not obvious until I removed the whole lock.

PM me if you need help.

Re: DOOR LOCK PROB

Re: the ebay actuators---There is one company selling MANY actuators there. I ordered two and they BOTH failed within weeks. It took me several months of emailing to get them to send replacements but they only sent back ONE and asked me to send both badones back to them. Im still in that debate. They are not as sturdy as stock. Its a PITA to have to keep re-doing them so Im just going to Ford and pay more.

Re: DOOR LOCK PROB

If he is blowing the fuse, the problem is not in the actuators, this doesn't mean they aren't bad, but he has a short somewhere. Time to start tracing wires. I have a write up on the replacement of the actuators if you need it. Only use the Ford units, the new ones are much stronger.
