dually tire options

just wondering what other dually owners have for tires on there stock rims.. i been wanting to go bigger and more aggressive tread for off road use. i do vehicle recovery at times and need something that will help with traction so i don't get stuck but yet give a decent ride on the road as well as allow me still to haul trailers. any way let me know what you other guys are running and your opinions thanks.

Re: dually tire options

I like BFG All Terrains, I have a SWR but I've seen them on DRW's. They run well on the street, and also good off road.

Re: dually tire options

Michelin XPS Traction tires. Widest they come is 235/85R16. Pricey but they last forever and have great traction in mud, snow, and wet pastures. Widest tire you can put on OEM DRW wheels (without spacers) is 255 mm. Anything wider than that and the tires can kiss under load. Can you say "blowout"!

That is about it for 255/85R16 tires that I could find.

Re: dually tire options

I've got Pro Comp All terrains on mine 315-75-16 on stock wheels. They have been lasting me about 50k mi I'm on my second set. they work awsome in the sand I do site prep and pull about 16K pounds every day of the week and I have yet to be stuck to where I cannot get out in 4wd even with a full load, and I live in the land of sugar sand.

Re: dually tire options

HeavyHaulin is right, I've ran the 305's and 315's with great success on stock wheels. Most 315's will require more than the 2" wheel spacers, but some 315's have a narrow enough tread width to get by. I backed up to 285's Dayton Timberline M/T's with 2" spacers and have solved all my tire woes completely. You will be surprised what a difference a wider tire makes on these duallies. The wider ones won't cup out or wear funky like the 235's or 245's on the fronts. About every 10,000mis. if you'll rotate the fronts, they should last some 40-60K mis. easily. If you need a good hook up on spacers, give me a holler. I've been using the same place for years and they make a spacer you won't have to worry about, even if towing heavy loads. Don't let some here desuade your decision about spacers, the way these are built actually give less bearing pressure than some aftermarket wheels for SRW's. I've not had one problem in 11 years with spacers on 4 different trucks. Good luck.
