You should be checking for continuity to ground first.
both wires at the motor(unplugged from the motor) should "rest" at ground. Since you are seeing zero volts on one wire that is most likey the one. then unplug the switch.
then check the plug for that switch for continuity to ground (looks like Yel/Lt blu and gry/org in your diagram). If both wires show continuity to ground then the rear door switch is bad. If only one shows ground, then you need to check the drivers door switch.
If the Yel/Lt blu and Gry/org show ground "AT" the drivers door switch then there is a break in the wire between the drivers door switch and the rear door switch.
If only one still shows ground then the drivers door switch is bad.
OKAY, I am not a electrical person but I am good at following instructions!! When I unplug the connector going to the motor there are two terminals. How do I check for cont. to ground? Do I place the red probe in the terminal on the door side, or the motor side? I assume the black probe would go to ground ( metal frame on the door), what should I set my meter on? Do I have to operate the switch to get the reading? If someone could give me a step by step procedure I would be grateful. I have given lots of info over the years to folks and now I am in the need so hopefuly someone can walk me through this.
As always thanks!!
Kev

there is no direct ground at the motor, that is why you have to unplug the motor, if one side is bad the meter will read through the motor windings and give a false reading.
the two wire plug at the motor (looks like yel/lt blue and yel/black should show continuity to ground at rest.(at rest means you are not pressing any of the switches)(using your meter one lead would be grounded to the vehicle and use the other to probe the two wires) both should show ground.
If one or both wires do not show ground then unplug the switch(the local one) and check again for continuity to ground AT the switch plug. (looks like yel/lt blu and gry/org).
If one or both wires do not show ground, then go to the master switch(driver door) and do NOT unplug the switch, but just probe the two wires for the rear switch, (they should still be gry/org and yel/lt blue.
If you do not show ground at the two wires at the master switch, then I would guess the master switch is bad since all the other windows work.
Thanks I will try that today, what will the meter show when it "shows ground" will it show nothing, 12 volts etc.... I assume I have my meter set on volts or do I set it on continuity. Sorry for the dumb questions but I appreciate the help.

no, your not checking for volts, just continuity, I think the meter should have an impedance setting or ohms. When you touch the two leads together it shoud show 0. and when the leads are separate it will show infinity.
So connect one lead to a ground on the vehicle and use the other lead to test the wires.
Ok here is what I did, I hope I did it correctly. I took the connection apart and set my meter to Ohms ( I set it on the 200 setting) I took the black probe and placed it on a good ground on the door panel, I took the red probe and placed it in one of the terminals in the connector ( switch side, not motor) I got a readings bouncing from 168 down to 72 and everywhere in between on both terminals, this is with the switch plugged in but in the nuetral position. Was I suppose to operate the switch while I did this test? Sorry for the dumb questions.
Thanks for the help.

I am using a Craftsman digital multi meter , if I set the Ohms scale to 2000 and I touch the leads together the readout goes to zero, then with the black probe grounded and the red probe going to each terminal I get a reading of around 750 on one terminal and around 815 on the other. The readout never really stops on one number, when I first insert it into the terminal the readout bounces from 500-980 and everywhere in between, after I have it there for 30 sec or so the readout settles down and doesn't vary as much. This again is with the switch installed but in the nuetral position. I appreciate the help.

I just ordered a new rear window switch and it cured all my problems and everything is back to working as it should. $29.00, not to bad. Thanks for all the help that was provided in this thread.
